this may be a stupid question but does a doctor have any control on
how early you can travel or leave with a 1 month old baby? My mother
told me they "won't let you leave that early" but I'm sure it's because
she just doesn't want us to go. I don't see how a doctor could control it, but I want to be sure...
My husband is in the Marines & has been in Afghanistan since
November. Our baby is due March 8 and my husband is supposed to get back
to the states in late April. We are stationed in California, but I'm
currently staying with family in our homestate of Illinois for the
pregnancy and birth. I'm going to travel by car with the baby and some
family from here to California about a week or so ahead to get our house
set up there in Cali for when my husband gets back. So the baby will be
about a month old when I head over there. The baby and I are
absolutely going to be there in California for when my husband gets there, no question about it. I just need to make sure I will be "allowed" to leave.
Re: How early are you "allowed" to travel with a baby?
The doctor can't prevent you from traveling. If you have a car seat and it is installed properly then I don't see why not. What is he going to do? Call the police on you for taking your baby back home?
Now if you were flying, I could see complications and the airline could prevent you from flying. Since you are driving I see no issue.
We know someone that moved to Guam with a 6 week old baby. A doctor can't stop you from taking your baby. I think you are right about your mom not wanting you to go.
GL, we moved to Cali when I was 34 weeks pregnant.
I flew with DD2 at 2.5 weeks. We were PCS-ing across the country and a 5 hour flight was a lot easier than a 44 hour drive. Her pedi said it was fine. He said it would be a different story, if she was a premie. Most airlines have an age requirement of a week or two old, otherwise they require a medical release.
There's no reason why you can't drive from IL to CA with a healthy baby. Just be prepared for a loooong drive.
Wait, FIRST of all, are you for real naming your baby Inara? I love it! In fact, it reminds me that I have a Castle from earlier this week with my name all over it...
Anyway, you can do whatever you darn well please with your baby! I flew home with my mom for maternity leave with DD when she was 1 week old and that was pretty darn early. Now, your car trip will be a bit tricky with DD needing to eat every 2-4 hours, so having help with the driving will be awesome for you. When I took another young-age trip, my dad drove and I rode in the backseat so I could pump and feed her without having to stop so often. And there were definitely times when I was leaning forward from the backseat to bf her WHILE we were driving. And that trip was only 500 miles each way. Best of luck to you and your homecoming with DH and his baby girl!
