Can they sleep in their boppies??

Quick question - can I put the boppies in their crib and let them sleep?

I thought I read somewhere that this is a no-no. They need to be inclined as they both are sick and congested. They sleep great in them, but they are supervised and not out of my sight during the day.

Your thoughts- yay or nay?

They are in the same crib and I have Angelcare monitors. Should I put them in their own cribs and turn them on? Right now I have the movement monitor off since they are sharing.

Ugh - i HATE SICK BABIES!!!

Re: Can they sleep in their boppies??

  • it says right on the boppy tag not to let them sleep in them.

I used to let them nap in them when i was right next to them - but i would never do it at night - even with angelcare monitors - actually, esp with angelcare b/c chances are it would go off all night b/c their backs wouldnl't really be touching the mattress- so the alarm would go of all night.

it's just too dangerous IMO -- too easy to slide down and have their faces surrounded by pillow and suffocate.

you need to put a board under the mattress and have the angelcare monitors between the mattress and board --- and then roll up a towel and put it under the board- to incline the mattress nicely, and still have the angelcare work well.

i would separate them and do this with the angelcare so you can all get better sleep.... get a humidifyer on high, spray some saline in their noses, too.... it's rough when they are sick like that.

That's what I thought. There is already a board for the monitors - we used the Angelcare with DD#1. Humidifer is already on high and they have been salined and suctioned up before I laid them down.

I just hate when I run out of options to comfort them. It's an awful feeling.

  • I wouldn't do it. Like Goldie said, it says right on the tag that they're not for sleeping. I'd find another way to incline their mattresses. (We had to do that since we had refluxy babies!)

Do you have PNPs?  You could bring them into your room, put them in PNPs, and let them sleep in the boppies that way, since they'll be in the room with you and you can watch and listen to them.  Otherwise, no, I wouldn't do it.

We just took down the PNP's in our room and gave them to my mom to use over at her house. Ugh!

  • We did but we had a crib side-carred to our bed so they were literally within arms reach for the first 8m or so, if I ever had any worries I could just look over at them or touch them.  I would never feel comfortable with that had they not been inches away from me.

i still wouldn't do it - being next to them doesn't mean they are safe.... if you are sleeping you will miss them not breathing - it doesn't make noise, ya know?

the rolled up towel method worked well for us- we had to do it for Gray all the time b/c of his reflux - we stopped around 8mo when he started rolling all over the crib and would end up with his head the opposite way - defeating the purpose of an incline since he was upside down :)   and we did it for Gibby when he was congested, too.

  • When Lauren was sick, the only way she could "open" up her nasal airway was when I would take her into a steamy warm shower.  She seemed to sleep much more peacefully after I did that.

I even went into the bathroom, ran the steam shower, for most of her feedings when she was sick/congested.  poor things.  Hope your LOs feel better soon.

  • I would drive over to target and buy two fisher price rock n plays.  You will totally use them and can sell them when you're done. They were our favorite baby purchase...

They're bassinet rated and are at an incline.

I always let the boys nap in their boppies when I was right next to them.  If the rnp aren't an option- you could elevate their mattress from underneath---- you would need to separate them.  Good luck- sick babies are the pits!

  • We elevated the crib by stacking books underneath.  They were in separate cribs.  Just be careful not to put too many books... it totally defeats the purpose if babies roll around and end up with their heads going the wrong way.  Then everything else you already did.  Hope they get better soon.

Yes, this.  You don't need to go through all of the matress propping you can just put some books under the feet of the crib on one side.

I would not let the babies sleep in boppies unless I was awake and right next to them.

We did put our girls in the boppies to sleep. We put a swaddle blanket over the top of the boppy (and made sure it was taught) so that they didn't sink down. We also rigged it so that the boppies were up against the crib, just in case they did start sinking a little.. but they never did. We did all of this after getting to know them (feeling confident they could turn their heads) and having a few practice runs of watching them while they napped.

    Hope they feel better.
