Okay I admit sometimes I'll pass up baking things cause I don't know how to do the following things:
Sifting and Creaming.
The recipe I have says to sift the flour, baking powder, and salt in a small bowl. I don't have a sifter, so how do I sift? ![]()
The same recipe says to cream the butter and sugar. How do I do that? ![]()
Re: Baking 101 questions
Cream: Place the fat in a mixing bowl. On medium speed beat until fluffy while gradually adding in the sugar. When done the sugar will be complete mixed into the fat as though they were one. If you have a stand mixer toss the items in for about 5minutes or so. If you have a handmixer allow the fat to warm up a bit then beat until fluffy.
Sifting: The purpose of sifting it to thoroughly combine dry ingredients while breaking up lumps. If you don't have a sifter, put the dry ingredients in a small bowl then put through a hand held strainer. If you don't have a strainer simply use a scond bowl and a slotted spoon. Spoon the ingredients into a second bowl using the spoon so as to combine and break up lumps.
You can sift using a strainer. You put all of the ingredients in the strainer (over a bowl) and just lightly shake them until they are all out in the bowl. And by strainer, I mean the type you use to drain water out of pasta, etc.
For creaming......you should use a hand mixer. Just beat until "creamy"
