Baby Bjorn - Original or Air?

We received both the regular Baby Bjorn and the Air version as gifts. Any rants/raves about either version or thoughts on which one of the two to keep? It will primarily be used by DH.

Re: Baby Bjorn - Original or Air?

  • I would return them both. The Bijorn is known as a "crotch dangler" in the baby wearing world, because of the way the baby hangs off your body by his/her crotch.  It's bad for baby's hips/spine and bad for your back too.

Look into an Ergo or Beco.

This.  An Ergo or Beco would be much better for you and baby.

  • I had and loved the original.  I have a very weak back and it never bothered me.  And DD never spent too much time in it so her hips, crotch, etc are all fine.  I did ask my pedi about this and she said that only excessive use was that damaging.  AlI know is that I liked wearing it and DD loved being in it, especially for hiking and the grocery store.

  • I have the air and found it "breathable" for DS.  I used to wear it with him while at Target or running a few trips a couple of times a week.  Honestly, my back hurt even for that short amount of time.

I bought an Ergo on babysteals.com for my DD and absolutely LOVE it.  Haven't used the Bjorn since and she just snuggles against me while wearing it.  Sorry that I couldn't convince you either way.  Honestly, you'll know what I mean once your baby is here and you try it out.  GL!

  • We went with air which was recommended.  Has great reviews too.

  • We got the one with the lumbar support. I didn't use it very much but DH used it a lot. We took DS to a lot of baseball games and we have season football tickets so we used it to carry him into the games. He was never in it for very long. He is fine.

I also have a ring sling that I like using.
