Anyone else's DH a total pack rat?

I spent a lot of my day organizing our closet. We converted one of the bedrooms to a playroom for our family day care and we lost the closet that I normally keep all of our linens in. DH has double the clothing I have and he doesn't TOUCH 90% of it. Seriously, most of it is t-shirts from middle school, nasty running shoes, and pants with holes in the crotch. I organized our closet today to make room for the linens. I didn't throw any of his stuff out. I just moved the stuff with holes and stains to the "summer bin" we have downstairs. Well, he came home and tore the entire closet apart putting all of his stuff back. I'm so angry right now I could scream. He says he "needs" all of his clothes. Yes, even his soccer jersey from 1990 hanging in his closet. I'm fine with saving that stuff, but a box or bin in the basement works just as well.

  • We must be living the same life because my DH is exactly the same!!!  I'm trying to do some early spring cleaning and he fusses over everything I try to touch!  Only, I'm not as nice as you about it.  For me, I want to donate a lot fo the stuff that he/we don't use, but I always get the line that we might "need" it one day.  Really?!  You might NEED all that lacrosse gear from high school??  We might NEED the air mattress with a hole in it--I think the trash can needs it more.  He acts like a 5 year old about it.  He's not a hoarder or anything, but geez.  We live in a townhome, and our goal is to move into a single family home in a few years....I will NOT be filling it with junk.  I'd say to try those space bags you see on tv, but I already tried them.  They refill with after after a day or two......sigh.  Good luck!!!

  • Are husbands must be related, my DH has clothes that he wore in HS ( he is 37 now) it is insane! I get rid of everything I don't wear after a certain amount of time...he hoards so much crap that one day I fear I will end up on the show hoarders with him.  My solution? I donate things little by little, he finally started to notice, but once its gone, there is nothing he can do about it! Plus, what does he honestly need an old sony walkman cassette player that is missing the headphones, or an old guess t-shirt with the triangle logo from YEARS ago???
  • Wow!  And I thought it was bad that my husband had clothes from college!  LOL  I don't feel so bad anymore.  I did throw a bunch out and donate some this past year.  I don't think he even noticed though.  But seriously, GREEN JEAN SHORTS?!? Indifferent Those weren't even acceptable back when. Ok, that pair might have been from high school, lol.

  • YES!

After we got married I kept pushing him to clean out the storage unit he had because I thought it was ridiculous to pay $135 each month to store god knows what. So we finally do and he threw ALL but one box out because it was just trash. Oh yeah, and there were two boxes of unopened mail. From the 90's.

One of the things that drives me nuts the most is that he saves pickle jars, butter tubs, jam jars....and we have perfectly good tupperware and never use any of the food jars he saves. But he washes them out and saves them anyway.

  • Yes, my DH has anxiety attacks even when I clean out my closet!  Today he actually went through my Goodwill bag.  He still has his wrestling shoes from 1987 in his closet.  Drives-me-crazy.
