  You do need to melt it in hot water. I put the soap in the empty washer turn on the hot water until it reaches the top of the base of the agitator then I switch it over to cold and add my clothes. Works well. I've also just put it in a measuring cup with hot water. Sometimes that doesn't quite dissolve it though as that gallon or two in the washer itself.

  aaarrgh! I knew it when I saw flakes floating in there. Well I will rewash with warm/cold, then from now on use your suggestion.

  I keep a mason jar by the washer, put my scoop of detergent in it add some hot water to swish it around while the washer fills (cold water) and then dump it in.
