C-Sec at Plano Presby?

Hi ladies...

Has anyone had a c-section at Plano Presbyterian? This is my first and wondered if you had any stories or tips you could provide?

Did you have a spinal or epidural? Did you feel like you could breathe? How was recovery?

I didn't deliver at Plano Presby since I just moved here, but my guess is that they do an epidural first. I didn't have any issues breathing, but did feel super cold which is normal.

I wasn't able to get up for quite a few hours but once I did the best advice I can give is to get up and start moving. Walk the halls pushing your baby in the isolet. It is the best way to starting feeling better. My overall recovery was pretty easy. I came home after 3 nights. I could have stayed 4 but was ready. I had family over the afternoon I came home and was fine. My mother did cook dinner for us for the first couple of weeks and not being able to drive was annoying, but other than that I was fine. I was out at Target on day 5 after having a baby and met friends for lunch with my baby on day 12.

Stay ahead of your pain medication in the hospital, don't be a martyr and think you don't need it. Moving is best and the pain medication will allow you to do it better. Once you are at home you will know if you need the percoset or the OTC will work just fine for the first few days.

I am curious to hear how your overal experience is at Plano Presby. We are hoping to get pregnant again this year and I am considering delivering there or Baylor Frisco. I want a hospital that lets me BF as soon as possible and doesn't take my baby from me for very long after the delivery.

My good friend did and her experience was near identical to mine. I had mine at Baylor Frisco...and my doctor works at both.

They do a spinal and epidural. The spinal provides immediate and good "numbness" and wears off after a few hours. It is a one time shot deal. The epidural is put in at the same time and is left in for 24 hours for pain management. The whole experience for me was fantastic. This was my 1st and I had a c-section by choice because we were expecting a large baby plus I had pre-e. Well, my son ended up being 9 lbs 11 oz. I'm so glad I did it the way I did, and I will definitely have another c-section.

Also, PP, who is thinking about Baylor Frisco... I cannot say enough good things about the hospital. I will definitely be having all my kids there.

Thanks for the info.! I will let you know how my experience is. We did a hospital tour of Baylor Frisco but didn't like the way the head L&D nurse spoke to all of us.

Quick question....did you feellike you could breathe with the spinal? Could you move your legs with the epidural?

I didn't have any issues breathing. From what I understand is if they give you too much that is when you feel like you can't breathe. As for moving your legs when you are fully under the epidural you can't move your legs but that is because they are numb it isn't a paralyzed feeling though. I knew they would move, they were just really heavy numb feeling. They put these air boots on you to make sure that the blood is circulating in your legs properly. Sometimes with a partial or walking epidural (they rarely do these anymore and only for vaginal deliveries) you can move your legs and walk. I wasn't really able to get up and walk until about 12 hrs after my c-section.

I delivered at Presby Plano, but didn't have a C. I actually chose that hospital because my cousin who did have a C- section (triplets) had such a great experience there. They do more C-sections there, because they are a high risk hospital (I asked my doctor when I was pregnant because I was worried about their C-section rate). So, my guess is they are a great place to go for a c-section.

Thank you....how was your experience there for natural labor?

I had a scheduled c-section there about 4 months ago and I felt that everything went very smoothly - of course I have nothing else to compare it to. I had complications with my delivery and they had to remove my uterus (placenta acrida) so my recovery was a little slower than most (I lost half my blood volume) - but it really wasn't that bad. For me the next day was the worst of it - I felt like I would never be normal again - and by the next afternoon I was walking to the bathroom and taking a shower (things you will probably be doing the same day as your c-section). I had a spinal and it really wasn't bad - I had heard so many horror stories about the needle - but it wasn't nearly as bad as I had imagined. I had a really great nurse (I wish I could remember her name - something short and unusual) and I think that makes all the difference. I wasn't real impressed with the LC that worked with me and the food left little to be desired - but all in all it was a good experience.
