I knew a boy named Leif growing up, people made fun of him because of his name.
A lot of years and a million tears finally led me to you.
After 7 years trying to concieve, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs, my third IVF was a success!
My Christmas baby turned into a turkey bird! Dillon Richard was born at 34 weeks, 5 days on November 28, 2009 after 10 weeks on bedrest for preeclampsia.

Definitely better than for a girl, though he may have to correct people's pronunciations from time to time(I believe the proper pronunciation is LAYF, although over here most people would probably pronounce it like "leaf" unless they'd encountered it before).

According to wikipedia the English pronunciation is leef, that is how my classmate pronounced his name. However in other countries the pronunciation of layf is correct.

It's my uncle's name. Everyone pronounces it "life." He's from Denmark. Maybe something was lost in translation/changed w/ American accent? I've never heard him correct anyone, his kids and wife say it this way too. Random but cool fact about him, he was mentioned in Charles Lindburgh's wife's book as baby Leif. They were flying somewhere and stopped in Demark and met the governor and his family (my uncles father and family). I only know this as recounted by my mother so he might have had some other title.
I don't know what some of these people are talking about. This name CANNOT be used for a girl! Have you all never heard of the infamous viking Leif Erikson??? At any rate I am of Norwegian decent and my brothers name is Leif. He is a strong, handsome, and likeable guy.

If you have strong German ancestors, then I like it.
About the pronounciation: When I lived in Germany I never heard this name pronounced Lay-f. It was always Life. (sounds a *little* different with German accents).

I went to school with a boy named Leif. He pronounced it "Layf," but every time we had a new teacher they called him "Leaf."

Only for a boy with this spelling.
Just like Leif Garrett...a Sean Cassidy heartthrob from the 70's. He's now on celebrity rehab. Not a good connotation in my book.
