Question re: mac & cheese

So, I always read people saying that mac & cheese is always a go-to for lunches and stuff.  I was wondering, are we talking blue box mac & cheese with the neon orange "cheese", or are we talking about homemade?

Re: Question re: mac & cheese

  • I dont use it as a go-to, but I only make it homemade. I do make a pasta casserole that is basically like homemade mac & cheese with veggies & ground turkey or chicken add that i freeze in muffin tin size portions and its my go-to dinner.

  • I buy those little tubs that you microwave for 3 1/2 minutes.

  • I make homemade when I can, but also turn to boxed Annie's organic - it's fantastic, actually.
  • I use the blue box mac and cheese only because it's the only one DD will eat. I've tried other kinds and homemade and no luck. So I'm happy with it because I can pretty much count on all my fingers what DD does eat.

  • I make mac and cheese every few weeks and it's always home made. I use WW pasta and typically mix in veggies (spinach, peas, etc) and usually chicken so it's a well balanced meal.
  • Ez mac on occasion

  • We do homemade and kraft.
  • We use Annie's organic. I usually mix in equal parts peas too.

  • Homemade. And if it is only for DS I literally just cook some mac noodles and sprinkle w/ cheddar. Usually cut up some veggies in it too. He loves it. But for me and DH I make it with a little more flavor!!  :)

  • We do both. We don't do it as a "go to" meal, but she likes it. She prefers just plain pasta so if we're going to cook pasta that's what she usually has.

  • Abs, you've eaten P's mac-n-cheese......after having my hubs make that stuff, box mac-n-cheese just isn't the same anymore.

  • I do homemade or Annie's mac & cheese.
  • We always do the Velveta Shells and Cheddar. It's not the healthiest meal in the world, but we usually only have it when I'm not feeling up to cooking on when I'm feeling sick. I actually HATE homemade mac and cheese.
  • I just started giving it to DD and I have been buying Annie's. It's organic and they have whole wheat versions.

    Homemade! haha!

  • I would never call our mac&cheese a go-to meal, unless it's leftovers. It takes forever to make (totally homemade) and definitely requires someone keeping B occupied! :p

  • I didn't really eat the boxed kind growing up so I've never made it for LOs but I do often make a big batch of cheese sauce (the butter/flour roux and then milk & cheese) and freeze it in ice cube trays to use when I want to- put over meat/veggies/pasta, whatever.  I like pp's idea of making it w/ some meat & veggies & freezing in a muffin pan though, I may have to do that one of these days...

What is there to "understand" about macaroni and cheese?

  • I grow my own grains which I grind into flour and combine that with eggs from the free range chickens in my backyard to make the pasta. The cheese is made with the milk from my hormone free cows which were snuggled from birth.

  • I do homemade -- it's so easy to make I don't see the point in doing the box (takes the same amount of time - really)

I sometimes mix in ham, spinach, carrots or even broccoli.  He loves it.

Love! I was starting to feel bad about my microwave mac and cheese and lack of the word organic.

    LMFAO Love this.

I buy the cheapest boxed stuff I can. I make home made via Pioneer Women's recipe on occasion as well. I tried the Annie's stuff & my husband spit it out. So we won't be having that again. :)

What is there to "understand" about macaroni and cheese?

I don't understand why anyone would eat, much less feed to their LO, the instant, when homemade is supersimple and yummy. I've just never understood the attraction to processed cheese.

  • I prefer to use Annie's Organic ...

BUT, I do make the microwavable Kraft ones if I'm running late and DS is STARVING!  I won't do this every day, but he'll eat it and I work so sometimes I have no other option.

He really hasn't liked homemade yet (my MIL's) but I can try different recipes.

I'm guessing you don't understand b/c you don't have the capability of getting over yourself.

FFS there are many things in this world I don't understand. Why people eat Kraft mac n cheese does not even rank on that list.

  • we have the ez mac and regular mac. I don't make it homemade.

  • "I don't understand" = "I like to judge"

Thankfully, I have developed the ability of empathy. This means I am able to see things from other people's POV. This allows me to do many things, including understanding why people eat processed cheese and why they might feed it to their toddler.

    Wow, judge much?

I guess those of us that use the box just don't love our kids enough.  Confused

  • Most of the time it is homemade with pureed cauliflower or brocolli in it, but sometimes she does get the Kraft variety.
  • We all love Velveeta shells and cheese.  Half of the time I made it I add chicken and veggies to it.

I could care less what anyone thinks about my family eating boxed mac and cheese.  Get over yourself.

  • What is more concerning is why you even care?   Does this keep you up at night or something?
