D.C. Area Babies

for those of you with baby boys

Do you have a preference on diapers?  Is there a brand you find works better, leaks less, etc?  I have this notion, and I may be completely wrong, that it really depends on the child.  I was just curious if there was an overwhelming majority that feel like one brand is superior for the male gender.

Side note/question, is it just me or does it seem like Luvs has become the forgotten brand?  I see them in stores, I honestly can't recall the last commercial I saw for them.  It just seems to me like you never hear about them.

Re: for those of you with baby boys

  • We have had great luck with Pampers Swaddlers.  We've never had a blowout and only very rarely have leaks.

  • i am a luvs user.  it is the forgotten brand, but they are cheap and they seem to work really well with both of my boys.
  • We used Pampers Swaddlers when DS was a newborn, then I did cloth for 5 months until I had to go back to work and put DS in daycare, and we have used Huggies since then with no problems. Actually, before the Huggies we tried the Kirkland ones from Costco, but DS had problems with diaper rash with those. It's really difficult to avoid blowouts for those first few months, but they were pretty few and far between.

  • At one time, I would have agreed that certain brands work better on DS than others.  We were Pampers over Huggies people until DS was 4 months old.  We then switched to Luvs.  At around 7 months, I tried Target and Wegmans brand diapers, but went back to Luvs.  They both leaked and gave him rashes.

However, since he became a toddler, if Luvs weren't available, I'd get whatever diapers I could find and never had leaking issues.  I wonder if he just has a better shape now or if I'm just better at diapering?

  • I bought a bunch of Pampes b/c I used an amazon.com 20% off coupon with my amazon/mom and save&subscribe. but he did fine with COSTCO brand too

I think I heard awhile ago that the unofficial rule is "pampers for girls; huggies for boys"

however, I hated Pampers for DD and I like them for DS. I think it's more child-dependent than gender-dependent. some butts do better in some diapers:)

I actually heard the opposite. :)

I HAVE found that Pampers/Luvs (since they're made by the same company) tend to be slimmer than Huggies.

  • We use Luvs during the day and Pampers at night. We had a lot of leaks with Huggies.

  • I think it depends on the child.  We used Kirkland with DS until he was 3 mos. old when we switched to Huggies and he has not had a single blowout. Ever.

He's a stockier kid, so if Pampers is slimmer, that may be why Huggies has worked so well.

As an aside, DD has been wearing Huggies and has a blowout almost every day.  I need to switch her brand.

  • We used Huggies during the newborn stage, Pampers until he was in size 2's and then I completly switched to Nature Baby Care, which I LOVE.  They have no funky chemical smell, no chlorine and no bleach products.

One of my friends has been using Nature Baby Care since her son was born nearly 2 years ago and really likes them as well.  They appeal to me since they are not bleached, etc.

  • I used Pampes Swaddlers when the boys were newborns then switched to Huggies (the huge boxes from Costco).  I sometimes had leaking at night but I would switch to the next size up for night time and that seemed to work well.

  • I've used Pampers for my son's entire life. The only time I deviated was when I was at my sister's house and ran out and borrowed some of her Huggies and they leaked. I haven't switched since :-)

  • we used pampers in teh beginning then from size 3 on we switch from huggies and costco, I order huggies from amazon.com or costco with a coupon but we use huggies overnights for bedtime.  he has not had any leaks during the day (knock on wood) and only occasionally at night and those are the nights I think I forget to point him down because his leak is all up his tummy!!
  • Keep in mind I've only dealt with this for three weeks, but LO leaked or blew out of Huggies, had a few issues with pampers, and has had only one or two leaks with Luvs and Target brand. He's still in newborn sizes (preemie) but we're transitioning to size 1 when run out. And to PP who said luvs are forgotten--you clearly don't watch asuch daytime tv as I do! There are annoying Luvs commercials on All The Time.

  • We are Kirkland brand diaper people.  And Huggies Overnites for bedtime.
  • We used Pampers until about 5 months, and have loved the Target brand ever since. I do think it is totally child dependent though!

  • I try a different brand every time we buy diapers because DS's skin is so sensitive. Right now, we are using Fisher Price diapers (who knew?).  I got the night time ones and the regular ones and so far, so good.

I haven't issues though between brands of diapers other than rashes it seems.  But I'm not sure if that's relative given that DS has started solids and yeah, so many new factors now that can attribute to rash.

  • I use Huggies for DS since Pampers seem to irritate his skin if used often (I have Pampers left over from a diaper cake someone made for us so I use one or two every day).

  • We used Pampers Swaddlers when he was itty-bitty, then switched to the Costco Kirkland brand, and currently in Target brand.  RARELY had any leaks or blow outs.

My MIL bough luvs once for DS when he stayed with her, and they gave him the WORST rash I'd ever seen.  They seem a little plastic-y to me, I think that's what irritated his skin.

  • I buy whatever is on sale.  It doesn't seem to make a difference with DS.  With my girls I always bought Pampers Swaddlers-all others seemed to leak.  Funny that with DS he doesn't really leak with any of them.  I'm not a huge fan of Luvs but I will buy them if they're on sale when we need them.

We use Huggies Overnights.  He does leak out of other overnight diapers.

  • I love the Kirkland brand from Costco.  I have three boys and have had the least amount of trouble with these ones.  Huggies gave DS #2 a really bad rash that didn't clear up until we stopped using them (at first I thought it was just a bad diaper rash but then realized that it was from the diapers).  I think every child may have a reaction to some sort of diaper but the Costco ones seem the softest and least likely to tear.  I can't remember if it was huggies or pampers that someone gave us once and the tabs kept tearing off.
