Unpopular opinion Thursday

Let's hear 'em girls!  I'll go first.

I hate some of the popular pregnancy-related phrases such as "when I pop" or "when I go" a/k/a give birth, "little man", "nursery"....  Ugh!  fingernails on a chalkboard!!!!!

  • Not a fan of nursery, huh? Is it just "baby's room" then? Those other ones are kind of annoying ;)

In my (unpopular) opinion, I don't get all the name posts. It seems like a useless collection of people's opinions, when you should go with what you love, anyway. Oddly enough, I usually am one to add my useless opinion to most of these posts :P

  • I don't know how unpopular this is, but it's a vent I've been needing to get off my chest.

I really, really hate all the stuff they make for little girls that says stuff like "Spoiled" "Brat" "99% Angel" "Diva" etc. I love some pink/girly stuff, even the "princess" stuff doesn't bug me so much, but do we really want to speak all that negative stuff over our daughters before they've even old enough to misbehave?

This! I don't like seeing you in your bikini when you aren't pregnant and I certainly don't want to see your bare belly when it has a baby inside. Cover up.

Yep, exactly.  It's the baby's room and, once we name him, it will be __'s room.

ditto.  i teach in an elementary school and think it's awful that parents spend their money on clothes like this.  same can be said for the shirts like 'it's my brother's fault' or something along the lines of 'homework sucks'.  not funny to me.

I actually think this term is kind of funny, only theoretically speaking, but not so fun if it really happens.

I too hate the term "nursery."  Reminds me how much I disliked the term "hall" when referring to wedding reception venues.

  • I don't care for newborn jeans... or jeans made for anyone less than a year old... but most non-parents and some parents think they are sooo cute and buy them for showers, etc...

the jeans restrict movement, are a hassle for diaper changes, and are always tighter around the waist when most babies already have enough pressure on their tummies from diapers and most will suffer from gastric reflux for some amount of time = the less pressure the better...

I know parents who dress their infants in jeans and adult-like outfits everyday... poor kids... I just love cotton, breathable onesies and sleepers/playfits... it just makes sense to me, especially when they are so little.

I totally agree. I also don't like baby boy shirts that say "boob man" and "I love tits" and such.  It's gross and it's pretty much insinuating a dirty relationship with the mother.

  • First, I 100% agree with the little girl t-shirts and stuff....totally inappropriate in my opinion!

My unpopular opinion is that I think it's okay for me to keep skiing at this point in my pregnancy and if one more 'non-skier' tells me that I shouldn't be doing it, I'm going to scream at them!  I live in Utah where skiing is a way of life and I've been skiing since I was little.  I know my body and my ski ability and both MH and I are comfortable with me skiing at this stage in pregnancy.  I trust that I'll know when to stop when it doesn't feel right any more.  I just hate the judgment I get from some people...my baby, my body, MY decision!!  Luckily most of my skier friends who have had babies also skied during pregnancy so they are totally supportive!

(sorry, that turned into more of a vent than an opinion Embarrassed)

  • I hate the fixation on buying baby bedding sets.  Infants don't need anything but a fitted sheet, so these big sets are really just for the parents.  And some parts (blankets, bumpers, etc) are arguably dangerous.  The baby doesn't care what his or her bedding looks like, so I don't get it.

I agree.  I also hate when things get so "matchy-matchy."  DD had a crib with a cute, patterned fitted sheet, and then would be wrapped in various patterned swaddle blankets... no bumpers, no sets, no worries, just easy and less spendy and safer.

I agree! I think they're super cute, but we just registered for fitted sheets and I'm making a crib skirt. With all the other expenses I don't have $200 for bedding! I didn't spend $200 on MY bedding either though!

Maybe this is a regional thing? Almost everyone here buys directly off registry. Lots of people get other stuff too, but most of our friends got most of what they registered for here!

  • I find a lot of T&P requests to be annoying.  Not ones where there is something wrong with the baby or someone is spotting, etc.  But ones where people are like "I need T&P for my cousin's friend's grandma". And then sometimes people ask for T&Ps for things I just think are ridiculous and T&P aren't really going to do anything.

  • oh and one more...I think someone posted this on FFFC last week, but it happened soon after anyways...

I find annoying the people who post a whole new thread with their bump picture like the day before/after HDBD.  No one else feels the need to AW themselves.  Just post it in the weekly thread and be done.  Even worse is when I notice they post it in there too.

I've been cranky for the past week...I'm sure I'll think of more. I know I had a few more ready last night. haha

but when people are requesting T&P for "cousin's friend's grandma" i think it's a plea for attention/sympathy.  there.  i'm a mean mommy too

  • I agree with all of these especially the girls clothes.

One of my pet peeves is anything winnie the pooh themed. Clothes, nursery, strollers etc. I dont know I just cant stand it and it seems like alot of people my age really like it and think its so cute ugh. I know this sounds really stingy or whatever but I honestly hope I dont get any thing like this at my baby shower. Is that bad? If I do I'm not going to lie they will be strictly play clothes or something that they can get messy in. Dont get me wrong I will be grateful for whatever I get but I just cant see putting my little boy in a piglet onesie.

  • Also, I get annoyed by people's judgements on what is considered acceptable to spend money on.  People's financial situations are so different on here, and so are people's priorities on interior decorating and other baby gear.   Sure, I know my kid doesn't give a crap about what his or her nursery will look like, and what kind of bedding he or she has, but I do, and that's ok.  And I'm fine with spending the money it will take to make it look as good as the rest of our home does.

  • Completely agree with T&P posts that aren't about the actual person writing the post. Those type of things need to be reserved for community members only.

On the same lines of the "22 weeks" post, I hate how many post titles on here say absolutely nothing. Like "Give me your opinion" or "Question" or "Anybody else?"  Those titles tell me nothing about what's inside the post. I know I pay more attention to that kind of thing than most people do, but I find it incredibly annoying when people can't make a simple effort to communicate more effectively. Be specific!

  • My opinion sort of goes along with the previous bedding posts, but in general I am not at all interested in decorating the baby's room. I probably won't start organizing his room until April or May and I doubt we will have a specific "theme." When people ask me about "decorating the nursery" I get irritated.

My NBR unpopular opinion is that I hate cable television.  My husband and I watch over the air TV only - we don't have cable. I think cable tv is too expensive and most of the time I can't find anything to watch on any of the hundreds of channels.

Same here with buying off registries, unless they know the sex. Then it's pointless to have a registry. Which is why I'm not announcing the sex until at or after the shower.

My UO spins off friends who are currently looking for a new house - I don't think you should look for a house only where you think the "good" school districts are. Our neighborhood is wonderful and the schools are hurting and could use "better" people moving to it (meaning people who could more positively impact the school they're a part of). Not to mention we got an amazing, historic, 3 story, 5 bedroom, 3000 sq ft house for less than $110k with reasonable property taxes that was move-in ready. People are getting far less house (which I know isn't always a bad thing...) with much higher mortgages and taxes just because they think the schools will still be "good" when their infant finally gets that old. Who knows what could change in 5 years? You may not even live in that area by then the way jobs change these days.
