So I am ready to buy a set now as far as crib, dressers, and such. My husband is concerned because it is:
1. Online so we can't see it in store
2. It is made up of solid wood and wood composite
The reality is that we went to USA Baby and saw some absolutely beautiful baby furniture sets but would probably walk out paying $2k. We don't have $2k lol. We'd probably only be able to purchase the crib.
I looked at the reviews and they are what you would expect. Some people love it and some people hate it. The great part is that we'd be spending $800 for everything that I want. I have an SD that will be sharing the room so we need more storage space and such.
How many of you are going all out with top of the line wood (straight solid wood) versus Target in a box options that are cheaper?
Re: Super expensive sturdy furniture?
Been away from theBump for a while, getting active again for all the good advice
we went cheap-o, but still sturdy. i don't expect it to last a long time though. but from what i've heard, even the most expensive cribs/dressers get scratched, bitten, etc.
as long as it's safe and within your price range, go for it!
We went all out...
I am typically a cheaper buyer when it comes to furniture. Our home is furnished with gently used stuff. DH wanted somethign that would last and I was all a board with him decision (he is usually cheaper then me!) We spent around $1,110 on our set. We also had a lot of coupons and discounts... 25%/20%/20% off and 10% on top of that with opening a credit card with Toys R Us (will close the account when we receive the bill for $278 (the minimum amount we could put on it to get discount)) Babies R Us also had if you spent $999 on nursery furniture set you get a $150 gift card, so we are getting this as well. It is the first furniture we every bought new! LOL We got Babi Italia Eastside collection. The set feels and looks very sturdy and we love the color.

We ended up choosing the $99 Ikea crib in white. We really wanted a solid wood crib, not as much for the sturdiness, but b/c we didn't want the baby chewing on the rails if they were wood composite, with glues and who knows what else. The Ikea crib also uses non-toxic finishes.
We paired it with my brother's old changing table, which I've actually had for several years as a dresser, we just added the changing table part back on the top (it screws in, in the back).
We didn't want a convertible crib b/c we want to use this crib for #2 when this baby moves into a big kid bed.
This. Luckily, and gratefully, the grandparents are going in together for it.

Which Romina set did you get/are you getting? We love the quality of the Romina stuff. We're waiting to see what Munire's new line (Echelon) is like...it's supposed to be comparable to Romina, but a little bit cheaper since it's being manufactured in the US.
We got this same set

We only bought a crib and changing table. They were a little pricey(Pali) but they were solidly made. We bought them with the intention of using them for a 2nd baby.
I'm so glad we did. Both pieces look brand new still. If you are looking for something to last a long time, I would spend more money. If you plan on getting all new stuff when baby is ready for a big kid room, I would buy something less expensive.
