Help me think of a name to go with Trip

DS is named Trip and of course I love his name. I feel like I can't find a name I love as much for the next baby. Help me think of a name for the next one. I think 1 or 3 syllable names go best with our last name.

OK, well obviously you are automatically making the Palin association (not that there is a problem with that) but that kid is Tripp. My kid is Trip which is a traditional nick name for someone who is the third (named after my husband who is named after his father). So although Trip is not on his birth certificate, that is what we have all called him from birth.

We don't use his given name at all. My husband doesn't go by it either. Its Richard.

I was thinking the next baby's name should "go" with Trip since that is my son's name for all intents and purposes.

Its funny cause IRL no one has picked up on the Palin connection at all. When I say I don't have a problem with that its because I do like most of their names (Bristol, Willow, Piper, so pretty KWIM). But I would never want ppl to think that we were being "trendy" and trying to copy them, that would be so so weird. Luckily ppl IRL aren't as up on celebrity baby names as they are here I guess.

First of all that wasn't a name suggestion, that was just making fun of my 14 month old son's name.

Believe me I can take a joke, I know his name is unusual, but you have to admit this thread has been mostly mean spirited. I don't really care, like I said I love my son's name. I hope that everyone on here finds a name for their beloved children that they love too.

I don't care about the Sarah Palin association. Trip sure is an interesting name. Glad it's a nickname!

My husband is a III and always wanted to go by Trip. His parents just never called him that as a kid. Instead, he goes by his middle name, Richard. Haha.

I like Trip as a nn for a III. DS is a IV and we considered calling him Court (traditional nn for a IV), but decided against it.

Okay, the only thing that comes to mind is that Richard is a monarchy name, so how about Henry with the nn Hank or Harry. I think Hank would be cute with Trip.

My guess is that lots of IRL people know he's named for family so the Palin association isn't there.

Yeah, there have been a few mean-spirited digs. Making fun of newspaper names=funny, making fun of a real person on the board's name = not cool.

I like the name Trip, but I also like naming a son the II, III or even IV and the nns that go along with that.

I like the suggestions to give him a normal fn with a nn that goes with Trip.

They aren't making fun of his name, it isn't his name!

My kid goes by Jack. But his name, on his birth certificate, is John. That doesn't save me from him getting called "The ripper" "Me off" "in the box" and "and jill" or "and diane". Simmer. Every guy I knew in HS named Tripp or Trip got over it and you and your kid will too. They say it, they just don't say it to your face. They will to his face though. I knew 3 guys named Tripp/Trip in HS. Trust. Trey or Tre would have gotten the same reactions, the third has it tough.

Just avoid the Palin kids names and you will be fine. Max is good. I also like the above mentioned Samuel. I think a good strong name (like you did with DS1) that has a really good nickname (also, like DS1) is what you should go with. I like nicknames a lot even though many here don't agree with "go-by's"...my kid has never been called John in his life.

I find it hard to believe people on here haven't heard of Trip (or Trey) as a traditionally nickname for "the third."

I'd also do a shorter name, or something that can be shortened to a nickname, like Sam, Tom. Kyle? Matthew? Something classic, yet popular like Jacob, which goes with both Trip (Jake and Trip) and Richard (Richard and Jacob).

I've gone to school with a number of Trips (as well as DH) and we've never heard jokes about the name. Ever.

I also find the caveat that you aren't making fun of his name because it's not on the birth certificate lame. It's his name because that's what everyone calls him.

Interesting. I call my kid Jack but I consider his name to be John. A nickname is a nickname, a name is a name. Maybe that is just my opinion. And you will notice that I didn't make fun of the name anywhere. I know a few guys who have gone by "Junior" their entire lives but I still don't think that makes it their name.

The guys named Tripp/Trip at my school were all football players. They got joked about it all the time. None of it was cruel in nature as I don't think bringing up the Palin kids was cruel in nature.

I know a boy named Tripp, who was born waaaay before the Palins hit the news. There was also a charcter in the movie Failure to Launch (Matthew McConaughey) named Trip.

Sorry that people are being such jerks. Some people like to hide behind their computers and act big. I like the name Trip, and even better-how your using it as the "third" as it is supposed to be used.

I think one syllable names go the best with Trip. I like Knox & Grant.
