37 weeks and no dilation

Just wanted to put up a post about NOT dilating.. since there are always so many about how much progress everyone is making. Baby's head is down but I'm not dilated/effaced at all and I'm really not that worried about it. I know for certain my sweet little girl will be here within the next four weeks so I've tried to think about that instead of getting caught up in all the numbers.

Stay strong ladies with no progress- we are closer to meeting our babies than we think!

Thanks I agree. 39 weeks and nothing for me. It's like people are scared of making it to their due date lol. Not going to rush anyone here.

I had my first internal on Friday and was not showing any progress. I had the same report as you. My next appointment is Thursday although I doubt there will be any changes.

I am with you... I guess I didn't know what to expect at my first internal but now I don't go into my appointments expecting anything LOL I was only dilated to 1cm last week (39) and about 40% effaced...

Good attitude though, our LO's will be here soon!!

My due date is today...and yesterday was the firs time I was dialated/effaced. So, I can totally relate with yall.

At my 39 week appointment I still had zero progress whatsoever! It's frustrating when you hear about gals who are 36 weeks and 3cm dilated (althought it means nothing, I'd still like numbers to throw out myself).

I'll have my first internal today. I was going to wait until my 40wk appointment but I couldn't wait any longer! I have a feeling I'll have the same news, no dilation, no effacement. But I always remind myself that my mom was NEVER dilated or effaced at any of her appointments with all three of us. With my oldest brother, she had an appointment the day before his due date and was told she was 0 dilated and 0% effaced, she had him the next day on his due date Big Smile

So just remember, anything can happen and the baby will come when he/she is good and ready!

Same here. I've had 2 internals and both were closed posterior cervix position. The doc seemed surprised at how low the baby is with no other changes week to week. I won't be concerned for another 3 weeks though.

Nice post! And ditto--nothing for me at 36, 37 week appts. We'll see tomorrow about 38. He's head down and still active, so he'll come when he's good and ready!

my OB doesn't even check until 39 weeks unless you are having pain/spotting issues b/c she says that women get too caught up in numbers and being a 1 or a 3 at 37 weeks can still mean you may go soon or make it to 40+.

I am not getting any internals until my 40 weeks appointment, at my request. I really get the impression that it doesn't matter at all if you are dilated or effaced prior to going into active labor. My SIL goes to the same OB practice and has been induced for 2 of her kids simply because she was dilated to a 3 and somewhat effaced at her 37 week appointments. I really don't want to even think about an induction until 41 weeks!

thanks for this post!! I appreciate hearing your perception on things! All of our babies are coming sooo soon!! It seems silly to get caught up in the details - especially b/c they mean nothing at all in regards to when baby actually arrives!

Such a good point! I had my 38 week appointment today and my midwife asked if I wanted to be checked. I said no, cause I don't want to know! I don't want to focus on a number. If I get past my due date, then I'll think a little more about the details. Good luck ladies!

I had my 38 week appointment today and nope I'm not dilated at all either! You're not alone. I am also in no hurry either.
