Fertility and clomid

Hi all,    I posted this on the TTC board, but hoped for a better response from some local ladies..  My husband and I have been trying for a little over a year now.  We both have been through all the tests, and my ob/gyn says everything looks good.  She says the next step would be to start clomid, but that she has concerns because I get cysts all the time.  She said she would do it, but would rather me be monitored by a fertility specialist, Gago Center in Brighton.     So here is the problem.  My next cycle is coming up in a week, and I can start the clomid then, or wait until the next available appt with the fertility dr, which is not until April.  I'm kinda tossed.  Part of me wants to start this coming month and if nothing happens (which I know is unlikely), I'll still have an appt with the fertility dr. I guess I just need advice from those of you who have used clomid, and if you had cysts. Also if anyone is familiar with Gago. Just a little overwhelmed. Thanks!

Hi There! I know a thing or two about Clomid. I would just have your Ob/Gyn write you the script for Clomid. You take Clomid cycle day 3-7 so it's 5 pills. They usually start you on 50Mg and move you up every month 50mg at a time. I have polycysitc ovarian syndrome and haven't had any real cyst issues to speak of on Clomid. If your doctor does put you on it you need to have your ovaries monitored for over-stimulation. This entails going around cycle days 10-12 for one trans-vaginal ultrasound to make sure you don't have hyperstimulation. Also your doctor should advise you on the best times for timed intercourse while on these meds.

I would still keep the appointment with the Reproductive Endocrinologist (Fertility Dr.) in hopes that Clomid works for you and you don't need his services. If Clomid doesn't work then you at least have an appointment with a specialist.I haven't heard of the doctor you mentioned.

I did not have cysts, but I TTC for 18 months so I know the frustrations that go along with it.  If I were you, I would start the Clomid and have your doctor monitor you for cysts.  When we were going through everything, I needed to feel like I was doing something.  I am not one to just accept what comes.  If it doesn't work, you can just keep your appointment with the fertility doctor.

I will say that I am one of those obnoxious women that other women talk about when speaking to friends suffering from IF.  I had major problems with my health insurance (KNOW your insurance in regards to IF treatments), and had stopped all medication as I waited to straighten out my insurance and see the RE.  The day before my appointment, I found out I was pregnant. So, it is possible. Even having that experience, I still say to try Clomid because it will give you some piece of mind knowing that you have taken some control over the situation.  Even though I conceived without Clomid, I do not regret the 6 months I spent using it.

Good luck.  It was a very emotional time that I do not wish on anyone.

I agree with everything Mrs.GH says. I also haven't heard of the clinic you are referring to.

Personally, I feel more comfortable taking fertility drugs while being monitored by my RE ... my former OB/GYN office was really busy and hectic and the one cycle I was on Clomid there (back in 12/2009)just didn't feel right and I wasn't monitored properly.

I agree about the monitoring, it is essential.  My regular OB/GYM office was great about it, though.
