My doctor asked me yesterday at my appt if I have felt movement yet, and I told her no. She said to expect it soon because for a 2nd time mom, I will feel it between weeks 12 and 15 for the first time.
Well...lo and behold early this morning I was eating an apple when I felt 'tap' 'tap' 'tap' on my belly. I knew it wasn't gas, and it wasn't indigestion, so I tested it by laying on my side to see if it happened again. Sure enough 'tap' 'tap'. : )
Oh, I'm so excited!!!
Re: I felt flutters!!
Ahhh!! That's so exciting! Congratulations
Awe that is so amazing!!! I can't wait to feel my little munchkin.
I told my husband this morning and he laughed at me and said the same thing. I then told him what my doctor said, and then he finally believed me.
Men! lol
First time moms is normally 17-23 weeks. I didn't feel movement with my son until I was 22 weeks.
Yep.
From Parent's website:
"A first-time mom generally notices the baby kicking by the fifth month; an experienced mom, by third or fourth months. This is probably because she already knows what a baby moving inside her feels like and recognizes his weak early kicks and wiggles. At three months of pregnancy, your baby's movements may feel like tiny bubbles or butterfly wings brushing against the uterus. First-time moms sometimes mistake these flutters for a bit of intestinal gas, not realizing until later that it was their baby all along."
It probably really was! It's weird feeling it this soon, but so exciting. : )
Posts like this set up highly unrealistic expectations. Even for a second time mom feeling it earlier than 15 weeks is HIGHLY unusual. The baby's bones haven't hardened yet and they just don't have the strength to make movements that one can feel. It has nothing to do with anything but the baby's development. I would highly side-eye anyone claiming to feel movements at 12 or 13 weeks and I would highly side-eye any doctor claiming that most 2nd time moms will feel it around that time. And yes, without going into too much personal information, I have intimate knowledge of the subject through school and work. Now everyone who is feeling gas bubbles (which do feel very, very, VERY similar to early movements and are often very difficult to distinguish) is going to think that they are feeling movement, and people who AREN'T feeling movement are going to think that something is wrong or that they are missing out on something that everyone should be feeling. NOTE TO OTHERS: 1st time moms might not feel movement until as late as 21 or 22 weeks. The average is between 18 and 20 for a first timer. 2nd times moms may also not feel movement until after 20 weeks, though the average for them is 15 to 17 weeks. Please don't feel like you should be feeling movement at 13 weeks, which is virtually physiologically impossible.
Not trying to be snarky but why do you think you know more then the OPs doctor? I'm not sure what your background is but if her doctor says that its possible for her to feel it between 12 and 15 weeks then why shouldn't she believe, esp. if she feels like she felt them already?
I thought I felt something a few weeks ago and a few times since then. My DH said the same thing. I was like ummm welll I know what it feels like and I'm pretty sure that's what it was, but he gave me the stink eye hahaha.
I agree. I would take my doctor's word over some random e-stranger. Also, she didn't say every 2nd time mom would feel something in that time frame. And some first time moms feel movement early - I felt movement at 15w1d last time. And no, it wasn't gas. And yes, it continued and gradually got stronger. These things really aren't that black and white.
Our Family Blog.
Not really. I never said EVERY 2nd time mom would feel it between 12-15 weeks. I just repeated what my doctor told me, and what do you know? My doctor was correct.
I definitely felt movement this morning.
I'm a 3rd year OB resident and my husband is an MFM. I don't think I know more than the OB's doctor, but everything I've ever learned has certainly shown it to be extremely rare.
15 weeks is far different than 13 weeks. The bones in the legs, particularly, have started to calcify at that time so it's far more likely. It's still on the early side, but definitely not unheard of.
That is awesome exciting news! I knew it was earlier for 2nd time mom's but I just wasnt sure when to expect it. I thought i felt movement last night but it probably wanst since I am just 11w.
I will totally be paying attention now!
I agree with this. While, I'm not saying it's impossible, the chances of it are VERY slim.

and Luck to my BFPB StephK!!- Emma is here!!
Are you a Dr or a nurse? If not you really have no say in what someone else is feeling. EVERYONE is different and there are many women more in tune with their bodies and know when they feel something out of the ordinary, even if its the slightest flutter.
Eesome that is awesome
I am happy for you. I thought I felt a little flutter for a second a few days ago, not in my stomach but low in my uterus.
Congrats!
I felt baby just yesterday! I couldn't believe so I got the doppler out and sure enough I felt it again and heard it on the doppler. I'm excited I can't wait till the kicks start. I felt movement with DD at 15/16 weeks and I felt kicks with DD at like 17/18 weeks and could see them a few weeks after.
My doctor told me the same thing.
My thought about it is this: why does it matter? If she believes she felt movement, then it's her business, not yours. Her doctor said it was possible, and whether you believe it possible or not is irrelevant. This is her second pregnancy. She knows what the movement should feel like, so who are you to argue with her? Her belief that she felt movement has nothing at all to do with you, so why get on your high horse and try to bring her down? Likewise, if other moms-to-be believe they have felt their baby, it STILL isn't causing you or anyone else any harm. We all know that feeling movement early is rare, but that doesn't mean it is completely impossible.
Ha! That's hilarious!
Right now they are just tiny flutters, but I do remember when I was about 30 something weeks pregnant with Quentin, and you would see an elbow or foot kick out. Crazy stuff!
Wow, i feel like i kind of have to step in because FantaIsMyHomie is somewhat getting picked on here. While the only person to whom it should matter is Eesome as to whether she actually felt her baby or not, and HOW she chooses to use the information she is given is completely up to her, i don't think that FantalsMyHomie is completely off base. She's arguing basic physiology, yes she IS a doctor (ie. read 3rd year OB resident - the training is arduous and long) and she is a doctor who is just disagreeing with another doctor's opinion (eesome's doc). I'm guessing that her reason for posting something like this (don't let me put words in your mouth, Fantals, but i'm just hypothesizing) is because, as a doctor, you do get a lot of questions based on things people have read on the internet and that they then fret and worry about. While the tone of Fantals email perhaps could have been different, her information does make a lot of physiologic sense.
As a mom-to-be, i look very hard for information exactly like this to help me make sense of what is happening to my LO and my body. When the science adds up, i accept it. If it doesn't, i don't accept it.
At the end of the day, it is everyone's choice to decide what to believe or not and i'm not educated enough on the subject to comment on Eesome's original post, but why are we so willing to discount someone else's solid information just because it doesn't line up with our own desires?
But eesome, baby kick or not, it's a happy day for you and that can't be a bad thing - so whatever the reason may be, i'm glad that you had something to make you smile!
