pregnancy rash?

I have a strange rash on my eartips, back of my ears, behind my ears, and down the sides of my neck. It is bumpy and slightly red, itchy and slightly burning. The bumps are almost invisible but can be felt. In addition, I have extremely hard round bumps inside my lymph nodes behind my ears. These symptoms showed up out of nowhere on Saturday (5 w 1 day).

Anyone know anything about rashes associated with pregnancy and whether or not I should be worried? Anyone else have weird rashes?

Thanks!

Re: pregnancy rash?

  • Anytime you have something out of the ordinary, call your doc and ask if you should be concerned.  The lymph node thing could be a sign of infection.

Rashes can be caused by any number of things.  I had a rash a couple of weeks ago that randomly showed up (felt much as you describe) after I picked up my dog.  We still don't know what caused it, but Benadryl took care of most of it.

When I called the  birth center, the mw I spoke with said that pregnancy does all sorts of weird things to your body, including potentially making your skin more sensitive.  Products you normally use with no problem can suddenly irritate the skin or produce an allergic reaction.  When I posted about it on here, lots of people said they'd noticed more reactions to things they used a lot or more dryness and sensitivity in their skin.

But because rashes can be symptoms of various things, it's a good idea to call and explain it to your doc and ask about appropriate treatment if they aren't concerned about it.

  • thanks, Easjer. I love your website suggestions in your bio, btw. Esp the birth stories.
  • I agree with the pp - you should definitely call your doctor and let them know.  They may want you to come in so they can take a look at it.  I have noticed my skin is much more sensitive now than pre-pg.  At my last appointment I brought it up to my doctor that I had a rash.  She took a look at it and said that it was probably a result of my soap.  Apparently I was using a very harsh soap and she told me to switch to Dove or Ivory as soon as possible along with a moisturizing lotion.  Sure enough, as soon as I made the switch my skin started to improve.
  • I have the SAME THING.  My forehead, backs of ears and sides on nose all little bumps.  I used benedryl cream and it got rid of them in a few days.  I plan to ask my Dr. next week when I go.

I had just started to use Acne Free when the bumps came...and I was wondering if it was from that.  So i stopped using it and used the benedryl cream which was on the ok list my Dr. had already given me.

I am so happy someone else had this freakyness.
