Babies: 6 - 9 Months

starting meats?

So from reviewing a lot of these posts I've noticed that not many people have meats started with their LOs.  When are you supposed to start?  We started meat (the gerber jars) around 6 1/2-7 months and she LOVES them.  Was this too early?  She seems fine with them.  We do a meat and a veggie for supper every night.  I was just wondering what everyone else is doing.

Re: starting meats?

  • I make my own babyfood so haven't tried meats yet but I should. I am going to introduce meat when she turns 8 months since I want to avoid puree meat so will give her small pieces to start with.

  • I read you can start meats as early as 6 months. We started DD about a month ago though because of the way we introduced veggies and fruits first. She loves turkey or chicken with veggies!

  • We started meat around 7 months.  We do a meat and veggie for supper too  :)  DS loves all meats except "creamy chicken noodle dinner"...

  • Our pedi said to start meats, veggies and fruit at 6 months. She's only had chicken so far (I have to mix it with veggies for her to eat it...or else she makes the OMG what is that face). We are going to start turkey this week.

  • We do BLW and started meats at 7 months.  Her first was turkey on Thanksgiving and a few weeks later she had chicken and ham.  She loves it!  At her 6 month the pedi recommended meat as a good first food because of the protein and iron.

  • My DF is kind of a nut when it comes to canned meats so we skipped the purees and went on to breaking up little bits of chicken and giving it to him. He LOVES it and LOVES feeding himself. I guess we started this just a little bit before 7 months.

  • I'm doing our grocery shop today and was planning on getting some fish for DS to try. Might get him some nice venison steak too :)

  • We just gave DD chicken for the first time this past weekend and she loved it! I was surprised because she is a little picky.
  • Especially in Canada, nurses and health centers are recommending starting meat as one of the very first foods (so, at 6 months).

We started chicken at 6.5 months and it went over great.

OH EM GEE! I am SOOO jealous! Look at all that hair! My siggy pics are from 3 months old, but she doesn't have much more hair than she did in those pics.. It's just a bit longer on top AND the sides fell out and are just growing back in.. SSSOOO jealous though. she is way cute AND she gets all the hair? No fair hehe.

To OP. I haven't started meats yet, she has no teeth and I make her food and also want to avoid puree-ing meat. It gets to grainy when you freeze it..

Awwwwww, thank you :)  Look at the curls on your LO!!  I'm jealous of that :)  I have curly hair so I'm hoping maybe she'll get it as it grows in.  I absolutely love the first pic in your siggy, gorgeous.
