As I'm sure you've already seen..we are doing Dr. Seuss for Hudson .. my friend is doing a "forest animal" type theme. If you look on 1st wishes.com there are some ideas and etsy has tons of cute stuff too!!
For M's 1st b.day I didnt do a "theme" I had this invite, then just did brown/blue decorations with simple homemade vanilla cupcakes. 2nd I did the Martha Stewert monkey kit (i have leftovers if you want some yellow/brown monkey stuff), 3rd red/turquoise polka dot's at Little Gym and 4th FireTrucks.

I will add the caveat that I don't do giant fancy birthday parties. So here's what we've done:
Bens first - generic "1" with bright colors
Bens second -combo Thomas and Tinkerbell
third - McQueen/Cars
Fourth - batman
Coopers first - farm animals
I think I just went to websites for birthday party stuff and looked at what they had til I found something cute. Firsts are hard since they often don't really like anything yet. have fun!
For Max's first we did a farm theme, rented the red barn at Jennings Park. This year we are doing a monkey theme. I think the first and second years are easier because you can pick whatever you want!
We didn't have a real theme but we used bright blue and green for decorations. I incorporated stripes and polka dots for some decorations but that was about it. I made all of the food and the cupcakes. Our party was just family and we just used the Cabana at our Condo since our livingroom wouldn't have fit everyone.
I did "the BIG ONE" for Ry's 1st. A fish theme. I used a lot of "the big one"and "o'fishally ONE". I think it was super cute. I had live goldfish too for decorations. ;)If I didn't do that, i would have done farm animals or zoo animals. (just so I could have made cupcakes to look like animals)lol
3rd Birthday: I think I'm going to have it somewhere, so the decor will be minimal (I'll have an approx 1 month old too, so I'm going easy on myself this year!)
We did Cougar football. Everyone wore shirts from their favorite teams (sigh, even purple people) and we had a football shaped cake, lots of crimson and gray decor, and his invites were "game tickets." It was SO much fun to plan.
We did a pirate theme for Ryder's 1st birthday since his room theme was already jungle with a side of tons of monkey things. When I say we, I mean me lol, but the colors were red, black and white. His cake had a skull and cross bones on it. Go look at my fb pictures if you want any ideas.
I think for the second birthday it's going to be a cars theme since he loves cars, or even something to do with music since he loves to dance.
