Are you planning to start back on your RA meds right after giving birth? I need to talk to my rheumatologist about what the plan is, but I am worried about the post pregnancy flares that I have read about. I am hoping they will put me back on at least the enbrel/feldene while I am in the hospital and then I can start the methotrexate a week or two later.

Good question!!! I actually don't know. That's something I need to ask. I'll call the rhuematologist this week and ask her about it. I just assumed I would be able to go right back on my meds right away. My rhuematologist is affiliated with a different hospital than I'm delivering at so I'm not sure if that's an order my OB would have to put in. I'll let you know what they tell me!

Let me know, I am very curious. I know my rheumatologist will just tell me to schedule an appt closer to my due date so she can check me out then so there is no use in calling now. But I am a planner and want to know what we are going to do.

hope you dont mind me jumping on your post...I was taking Enbrel for 2 years prior to my BFP. Both RE's I saw (I switched this fall) didnt have a problem with the enbrel, but because I thought it wasn't working anymore, my dermatologist had me stop using it in early Dec., just prior to my ET. I didnt stop because of the IVF cycle, it just worked out that way. Did your REs have you stop using Enbrel? When do you think you'll go back on? I dont miss the extra shots

My RE, OB, peri and rheumatologist all discussed my meds and agreed that they didn't think Enbrel had enough supporting documentation to be deemed safe during pregnancy, they actually made me detox for 6 mos before my peri would clear my RE to start treatments. My peri said he would rather treat any flares with pain meds than use Enbrel. That said all of my doctors are very conservative and take the approach of if you can live with no meds then that is what they prefer. I know several people with less conservative doctors who say Enbrel is fine. I know my doctors have mine and my baby's best interest in mind so I don't mind their super conservative approach.

I hear you- I would rather be on the side of caution as well. I am off it now anyway, but I didnt "detox" for 6 months, only off it for about a month, and enbrel was the only med I was on- I was only off it for about 1 month before ET and we used DE, so that wouldn't be affected. But I am happy to be off of it during the pregnancy
Saratoga I was on quite a few other meds methotrexate and feldene being the worst of the bunch. More than likely my 6 mos detox was for them more than the Enbrel. From what all the specialists said the methotrexate causes some egg quality issues so waiting 6-9 mos before doing treatment gives your body a chance to rotate through the eggs that have been affected by the meds.
