Cloth Diapering

Econobums and Prefolds

I have been looking at different kinds of diapers for weeks now, and can't decide what to order!  I would like to use a prefold because they are so cheap, but am worried about the folding process and using a snappi.  Because of this I like the idea of a diaper that I can just fold the prefold in thirds and lay it inside, like the Econobum shows can be done.

So I guess my question is, how effective at holding everything in the diaper is folding into thirds vs. actually folding the prefold and using a snappi with a cover?

Any advice is welcome!

  • I am pretty sure you can do that with any prefold and waterproof cover. Green mountain diapers shows it done with bummis covers and prefolds:

  • I think the prefold and snappi is much easier and faster.  It may be cumbersome at first, but it's really very simple and becomes second nature.  I sometimes use the trifold prefold as a doubler...but not often and I only used the trifold prefold in a cover once or twice because it did not keep the #2 off of the cover and therefore the cover could not be used again until I washed it.

  • Have you tried the econobum covers?  Do they work as well as other brands?
