hey all! i'm finally coming out of lurker-dom i know there's a lot of posts like this, but just wanted to see your opinion on my NB diaper stash.....

6 thirsties duo wraps (3 aplix, 3 snaps)

1 dozen orange GMD, 2 dozen yellow GMD

So pretty simple... 36 prefolds, 6 covers. Think that's enough?

Seems like enough, as long as you're willing to fold down the larger prefolds if you run out of small ones.

Side question to those who have used them- will the Thirsties Duos really fit from birth? I read somewhere that the Thirsties XS or something like a newborn Prorap would be better for the first few weeks. Is this true?

If the Thirsties Duos do fit from birth, then your stash is exactly what I was planning to get (except 24 newborn and 12 small instead as DH and I are both small so we except a small baby).

I, too, heard that the Thirsties covers don't fit until a few weeks later and that also they don't have the umbilical cord notch like other covers do. I purchased 3 Bummis Super Brites for the first few weeks until the cord falls off because of this. Then I plan on moving to the Duos.

bummer, i didn't know that the duo wraps don't always fit at birth. so bummis super brites? are those covers? i'd really like to stick to the cover/prefold thing if possible.

Yep, they're covers

Or, Proraps are only like $7.50/each on Amazon and they come in a newborn size with an indention for the umbilical cord.

Yup, those are covers.

Other options would be proraps or thirsties XS.

I would worry about EBF poop escaping through any potential gaps. The newborn covers are a bit smaller, so would act as an extra barrier for keeping in the messes. Also, the umbilical cord notch...I just prefer to have this. I'm sure you could get by just using the Duos, though.
