Baby Names

Post your facebook, hospital & other name horrors here

Per this thread, we're hoping to condense a lot of the "gawker" threads into one! We thought this would make them more fun to browse and the board an easier read. We'll start a new thread every day to keep the list fresh.

Anyone is welcome to add to the post--local hospital names, the awful name you over heard at the park, Facebook horrors, and anything else that might give us a good chuckle! Feel free to comment, too.

  • I recently got a friend request from an old school friend.  She has three daughters, the oldest is Jayda and then she has twins Kyleigh and Kendall.  Not terrible, just terribly trendy.

Actually, a possum is a real animal and believe it or not a possum and an opossum are not the same animal at all.

Here's some basic information; I checked a couple links, but this one is the most informative:   https://hotword.dictionary.com/possum-opossum/

LOL, but is it pronounced ex-dash-ann-der?

  • My trailor trash SIL named her daughter (who is two years younger than me) Billie Jo, after BOTH of the men who COULD have been her father. AWESOME.

We have a "Neveah" in the family. Ugh. Shoulda just named her "Stripper Pole."

Wezlee (for a boy. Supposed to be Wesley. *sigh*)

Jemymeeah (Instead, I suppose, of Jemimah?)

    Stupid.

  • As a specials teacher at an elementary school, I teach over 550 kids, so I see a lot of names. These are some of the most out-there names I can think of off the top of my head:

     Sir John

Queen Beatrice (goes by Queen Bee)

    Rufus

Crytrina (really hard to say quickly)

    Quiesha (pronounced Q eesha)

Tequilla (yes, it is mispelled on purpose)

    Ambrosza (also misspelled on purpose)

DaQuinn (but mom insists it is pronounced Day Qwan but the hospital misspelled it at his birth)

JaNayJsHa (yes, all those are actually capitals in the middle of the name)

    Cash'mir

    Mahoghanie (misspelled on purpose)

Mnemosyne (parents didn't want strangers to be able to say her name)

    Persephone (same as above)

Jon Jon (there is a strip club in the next town over with the same name and it has been there for years)

TWINS: Shamirah & Tamirah, Octavia & Latavia, Emery & Emerihiana, William David & William Daniel

  • Aaralynn (pronounced uh-ray-lynn)

    Completely awful.

I wouldn't have trouble with either of those, personally...but I've also been reading Greek mythology since I was five.  The first one is a lot easier when you know that the first M is silent.  I've met people both online and IRL who had considered the name Persephone for a daughter--at least one planned on using the NN "Sephy"...I've got no problem with the name by itself, but the NN is pretty awful.
