Hi there, I am currently 13 weeks pregnant, and am looking for suggestions on how I might notify my out-of-town relatives of my pregnancy if the father and I aren't married or living together. There are a ton of cute pregnancy announcement cards out there, but almost all of them assume marriage, or say things like "WE'RE so happy," "WE'RE expecting," "John and Mary will soon be three" etc etc.
Any advice on good ways to announce one's pregnancy if it might not be a two-parent household? I feel like my relatives deserve to know who the father is -- and we aren't on bad terms (we dated for 5 years, and just last summer made the decision not to cohabit anymore.) I feel like it's silly to postpone telling my extended family simply because I can't get the wording quite right... can anyone help me out?
Re: Pregnancy Announcements for unmarried parents...
You could go on a site like Vista Print and create your own so it's not "pre-worded". And put something like:
Proud to announce there will be a new branch to the family tree...
G is expecting! Baby is due to arrive __/__/2011.
Proud parents: G and ___
Or since you don't know the sex yet...
Pink or blue it's too soon to say.
But we'll find out on delivery day.
G is expecting! Baby is due __/__/2011.
Proud parents: G and ____

Anyone who really cares already knows or you already thought to tell them. Believe me the news travels quickly when the pg is before a wedding.
I got pregnant by someone I had just barely dated (we have become friend through everything, though). I have told friends in person, on the phone and made some fun updates on Facebook, but nothing "official." I will wait until the LO is here to do a big announcement.
You are probably in need of extra support at this time (emotionally, if nothing else). Let your closest friends and relatives know. Let them know that you're happy with your decisions and excited about the baby. Everyone takes their cues from you. I'm not saying you won't encounter some Debbie Downers or Negative Nellies; don't pay them any mind.
Enjoy your pregnancy and look at all the positive things you have to look forward to. I have had a few down days being mostly alone in my pregnancy, but overall, my mood is great and I can't wait to be a mother. I wish you luck!
