Just wanted some honest opinions...although we've already chosen this name and are sticking to it :)

I have seen it spelled Braden...but we didn't like it because when i see it spelled that way, i think Bra-den.

  • Brayden is trendy. The "y" is unnecessary.

    This.

Also the Y is not needed. Braden looks more clean to me.

  • I think both spellings would be considered trendy.
  • Braden, although a nice name is trendy.  I'm not a fan of the "y", but if you're not liking the "bra" spelling maybe try Braedan?  I'm not sure it's a whole lot better but it takes care of the "bra".

  • Yes, it's trendy. Trendy just means that it is popular at the moment. But, right now at this point in history, what is trendy are names that seem to be made up with no derivation from a more traditional name. Or, the use of last names as first names or boys names for girls.

  • Yes.  Brayden = Trendy x 1,000,000.
  • Extremely trendy. It's a made up name with a made up spelling that rhymes with every other trendy boy's name of the last five years.
  • I've only ever seen it spelled with the "y." I would spell it the most common way so he won't constantly have to correct people. It is very trendy but I don't think it's a bad name. For some reason trendy boy names don't bother me near as much as trendy girl names...no idea why!
  • Whether or not it's trendy isn't an issue if you love it.

Braden is the standard spelling, though it comes from "Bradan" (sorry can't do accents). Braden is actually not a "made up" name (see the town of Bradenton, Florida, the Braden River, etc.). It's a surname name that has recenlty seen a huge rise in popularity because it rhymes with the uber-popular Aidan.

Brayden, however, is ugly. It looks like a donkey. Bray-den.

Braeden is horrible. All those round letters and superfluous vowels make it look feminine. Look for people to name their daughters that and argue that they "spelled it that way to make it look more feminine."

If you're going for that name, pick Braden.

Or, pick Brendan or Brandon, which are at least traditional names (it means "Prince"), or Brian.

  • Yes, it is trendy, especially with your spelling.

I grew up near Bradenton, FL and the Braden River and no one ever pronounced it "Bra"-den, so the "y" really isn't necessary IMHO.

  • Yes, Brayden is sort of the definition of trendy, especially spelled with a y.

I really like the name Craig, though.

  • Yes.  Trendy.  I am so tired of seeing these names... blech.  At least you paired it with a masculine name because Brayden with a Y looks all girl to me.

FWIW, I babysat a boy about 15 years ago - he was about 8 at the time.  His name was Braden.  At the time, I really liked his name.  And, I do still like it - spelled this way.  For me it loses its ties to the -aiden/-ayden fad when spelled correctly.

  • Yes I think Brayden is trendy but it is trendy for a reason. A lot of people like the name. I think it looks fine spelled Brayden....it is spelled the way it sounds and I totally get why someone would pronounce the alternate spelling as "Bra-den". My grandmother would totally be that person :)

  • Yes.  Braden = trendy.  And Brayden = trendy.  All variations, all spellings = trendgy.  Not a fan.

  • LOL!  Are you joking?  Surely ... you're joking?

If you're not joking, yes, Brayden is about the most nauseatingly trendy name I could think up.  The -aden thing is tired and overdone and really uninspired.  And sticking a 'y' in the middle of your boy child's name is just weird, imo.

You still have time to think of a good name.

  • trendy and the y makes it trashy. Sorry.
  • Of course it is.  -aden and a random y?  You're hitting the two biggest trend-offenders.
  • Its very trendy a with the "y" it just looks made up.  It makes me think of a donkey.
  • My first year teaching (5 years ago) I had a Brayden.  He should be turning 17 this year.  I'm not sure my point of sharing this, but figured I would anyways.  It's a cute name.

  • Yes, ridiculously trendy. 3% of all boys born last year had one of the -aden names.

I do like the traditional Braeden but I would never use it now.

  • My 5 year old nephew is Braeden.

First I had heard of it when he was born, but now I know 7 under 6 years old.
