Measuring 2 weeks behind

Hi,

This is my first time posting here but I am always reading what everyone else has to say! But now I finally have something to add myself :)

I am due 2/25 and for the past three doctor's appointments (including the one I had today) I have been measuring at first only one week now its two to two and half weeks behind. I am 5'10" so the first two appointments the dr's said it probably has to do w/ my height (makes logical sense to me that I wouldn't care the same as someone much shorter). Today my husband and I went to my appointment and since my dr had an emergency surgury to attend to they had me see the  MW. She measured me and sure enough I was still 2 weeks and some change behind and hwen I my husband asked her if it had to do with my height, she firmly said NO. So now I am scheduled for an ultrasound tomorrow and I am worrying like crazy since the MW seems to think that height is not a factor at all...just curious if anyone else has any insight, suggestions, ideas, etc.  PS- my baby is very active, which teh MW said was obviously a good sign, but still it worries me. Thanks!

Re: Measuring 2 weeks behind

  • Fundal height is not a reliable measurement in all cases.  It's best to look at the u/s results.  I've measured 2-3 weeks behind my entire pregnancy and I have had growth ultrasounds throughout the pregnancy.  In each the baby was measuring right on track.  I just had my last growth u/s yesterday and baby was big and active.  We all carry differently.  Try not to worry.

  • I measured two weeks behind since 30 weeks. Growth u/s shows a healthy baby, just a smaller baby (which is normal for my family). I wouldn't worry about it too much unless the doctor gives you some other reason too. Senseless worrying is just a waste of time. :)

  • i have been measuring small as well through this whole pregnancy. i have had 2 additonal ultrasounds to check on his growth but he is right where he should be. The latest one was 3 weeks ago and he was 5 lbs 4 oz and im a little over 37 weeks. They have actually never told me how much less im measuring. They just dont think he will be a big baby..which im fine with. they always say the same thing to me including today at my 37 week appt [where are you hiding that baby?!?] i think you will be ok =] good luck though!

  • My OB said that I was measuring a week behind (starting a couple of weeks ago) and that he expected that number to go up as I got further along. Meaning I'd measure further behind with each week. He said it's normal for his patients that are built like I am. I'm 5'10" and was 115lbs pre-pregnancy. I wouldn't worry about it unless your ultrasound shows something significant.

  • I've been measuring 1-2 weeks ahead my whole pregnancy and my doctor told me that +/- 3 cm is within the normal range. I also had an ultrasound to to check things out yesterday and everything was fine. I'm sure you will be fine (especially with how active it sounds like your LO is) but it's always good to confirm. Plus you'll get an extra peek at your baby, which was a perk for me!

  • I have measured behind too in terms of fundal height for a few weeks. At my 37 week appt (last week) I went in for an u/s and everything was just fine, just a slightly smaller than avg. baby.  So try to relax if you can!  For what it's worth, I'm  5'3".  My daughter was born a week after her due date and was only 7 lbs.
