Wow some of you guys are really rude to this person asking a question...So sorry not everyone asks the perfect question or says all the perfect things. This message board gets meaner and meaner everytime I read something. Just like a bunch of woman. Ugg

So some of "us" are rude but she can call those who formula feed lazy?! I don't think so.

Am I the only one who thinks the OP should get another doctor? If my daughter's pedi told me to give her water knowing full well that I wasn't producing enough milk to keep her healthy and growing, I'd leave that practice immediately!!! And while Pedialyte may have sugar in it, it also has electrolytes to at least help restore some of what your baby is missing since you're not feeding her. Water does nothing to help her grow!!!

She probably felt threaten by all you guys coming down on her for asking a question. There was probably 10 or 15 mean spirited things said before she made the comment about being lazy. Maybe she should not have said that but have a little human compassion and stop berating eachother.

I was thinking the same thing... just to peeved about the lazy formula feeders comment to include it in my super nice post that I left for the OP. I can't BELIEVE her dr hasn't reccomended formula yet, and instead is going the route of solids to put on weight (since they're just for practicing and BM/Formula is what gives a baby nurishment). I understand her dr's reasoning, but I can't believe he's taking just that approach instead of doing a combined effort of solids, BM, and supplementing formula until the OPs supply is back up.

First off- "you guys" doesn't apply to me as the one and only time I wrote back was on page 4. Yes, maybe there needs to be a bit more compassion, but lets be honest, this is TB. I don't expect a world of compassion. If I want compassion I go to other sites. I think that OP could have worded things a lot different and this never would have turned into the sh*t-tastic post that it did.

Let's be fair here... In the OP, she did say that this was just discovered, so I can understand the pedi being willing to let her wait a week or so (as long as things don't get worse) to see how things go once she and LO have had time to get over their colds. Personally, I'm glad that the pedi didn't jump straight to "we have to do formula NOW" and is working to support a nursing mom but is also staying on top of the weight issue and not letting it go much longer. However, the OP needs to understand that if things aren't improving by then, her only option may be FF (even if it's just supplementation) and start coming to terms with that instead of freaking out about it. The added stress doesn't help with her supply issues.
Now, as for some of the follow up comments... Yikes. I can't imagine a situation where I would be willing to defend some of those.
The responses to this have gotten ridiculous. A lot of you sound so hateful. She used a poor choice of words with her "I'll just die" comment. She doesn't want to give her baby formula if she can at all help it. Get over it. If you EBF, the last thing you want to do is supplement, especially if you've made it 7 months. It's a very emotional issue.
The OP should have been way clearer and better said. However, there was no reason to show how mean-spirited and ugly you can really be in response.

Some would like to be updated after sending me a few messages. Some won't care, and to the rest I just don't care.
Anyways, for those of you who did offer helpful advice, yes my milk supply did increase and go back to normal. About a week or so after we got over our illness things went back to normal. I ended up drinking Mothers Milk Tea and pumping every hour. Of course I drank many fluids as well.
When I went to my Dr. appointment my Dr. told me not to worry, but I did anyways, because I find my child's health to be very important to me. At the time my child was not eat solids out of refusal, not that I was not trying to give her foods, she just didn't like anything. These days she eats more but is still doesn't like most foods. Breastfeeding is going well though. My Dr. said my milk supply probably went down due to the illness, and also because my child's nose was stuffy she didn't feel comfortable and couldn't breath well so she didn't drink as much as normal. So because she wasn't drinking as much it sent a signal to my breast to not produce as much milk as before.
A few of you were perplexed by my Dr. advice to give her water, but for those of you who didn't see my comment because of all the hateful ones, my Dr. said to give her an ounce in the morning, and an ounce in the evening, and that was just to make sure she wasn't getting dehydrated since we were both sick. I hardly think 2 ounces of water a day is going to harm her. A few made the comment water has no nutritional value, but at the same time, does pedialyte or gatorade have any real nutritional value to it either? Seriously, 2 ounces of water, or 2 ounces of pedialyte, honestly is it going to make much of a difference? its only 2 ounces.
To those of you who I offended with my formula comments. I stated what I truly believe, and if that offended you, then I'm sorry for that, but I do not take back what I stated. However, I only even shared what I truly felt about formula after getting attacked on this site by just about everyone. People would read one sentence or one comment without knowing all the facts and jumped all over me. Thats fine, you shared your insulting comments, and in response I shared mine after just being sick of all the crap some of you wrote, like it or not, we are all entitled to think and say what we want.
I lost my cool, yes, I definitely did that, but after people end up googling you, and send e-mails to my private e-mail account with hateful insulting messages, then you might lose your cool too. I'd probably only say that maybe 2% of you acted like a decent person on this thread, the rest of you acted like children, bullying the new kid. Grow up, you're supposed to be a mom, not in elementary school.
For those who did give helpful information it was appreciated. All is well with me and my child, and I guess in the end I should have listened to my Dr. who told me not to worry about it. In the future, I guess medical advice should be left to the Dr. and not a bunch of bored women. Only a few of you showed real class. Even myself, I stooped to a low with a few comments. But I'm over that, and I wish all of you regardless of what was said, a great day, and weekend.

Ok then. Sorry I made your head hurt. No need to bid my life adieu. Just answering back to you. Hope you have a good night.
