nursery curtains?

Where are you getting the curtains for your nursery?  I'm really struggling with this!  We're doing a green theme - more adult, not baby-themed at all.  I want to find curtains before we paint (to make sure the colors work together), but can't find anything I like!  I think the biggest problem is that one of our windows is actually a double, so we need wide curtains (71"+) for that window.  Any tips?

Re: nursery curtains?

  • We just got the curtains to match our bedding.  But in the past we have had wonderful experiences using JC Penneys.  The price has been great (and they have a lot of sales) and the quality has been awesome.  I think every room in our house other than the nursery has curtains from JCP.

  • I couldn't find squat for my windows. We're doing an aquarium theme, and while it IS more baby oriented, all i could find were valances.

I have a 65" tall window... valance only looks silly, even with our wood slat blinds.

I had to resort to pulling out ye old sewing machine and finding a material I found suitable to the theme from the craft store.

You may have better luck if you're going for a more mature theme, but you're probably going to pay quite a bit for it as well.

  • I am making mine because I couldn't find any I loved so I may not be a lot of help but what kind of look are you going for? Do you want long curtains, a valance across the time, shades to block out light?
  • We bought super cute ones from Ikea for DD.

We are doing a valance for DS that matches his sailboat bedding.

  • We are getting ours from Pottery Barn Kids.  They have super cute colors!

  • I ordered mine from Target.  I didn't want to go very "kid" with the drapes either.  I'm sure they have different size options, but JC Penney does have a big custom selection and buy from the rack like a PP said.

  • I didn't want a babyish room either so we did a bunch of mix and match stuff. What I did was went to JoAnn's Fabrics and picked out my colors and made my curtains. I don't have any sewing skills but it wasn't hard at all.

  • Ikea is a great place for inexpensive curtains.  If you don't like those, you can always buy fabric.  Even if you don't sew, you can make them yourself.  Hem them with Stich Witchery.

  • I'm having curtains made to coordinate with the bedding we're having made. No baby theme here, just fabrics. I did the same thing with DD and hers are still in her room almost four years later.

  • Im pretty jealous of the "curtain makers" i would love to make my own but i think i want to much.

My nursery is Navy and lime green and i would like long (room darkening) cutains in navy with a lime green stripe across them horizontally about 1/3 a way down. i may have to go to etsy and get them made or buy navy and somehow get the green fabric across them.

I want the green fabric to blend in with the green stripe I'm putting around his room.

You could make this pretty simply I think if you stick to panel curtains.  You can use this as a guide but buy more fabric so it completely covers the width of your windows. The simplest way to attach the curtains to a pole is to buy the ring clips  and just put them on whatever rod you choose. The stripe you want can be a wide ribbon attached with the same iron-on glue (or sewn on if you prefer) as your hems.
