I'm building my registry, and I feel like I'm losing my mind in the breast pump category! I don't want to spend an arm and a leg, but I want one that's going to work well, electric preferably. Please help!
I'm a SAHM and EBF so I have the Medela Swing which works for my purpose. If you're going to be exclusively pumping, going back to work, or just plan on pumping a lot to build a stash, I'd say spring for the more expensive double pumps, but don't open them until you know that BFing/pumping is going to work for you (in case you need to return it).
I went back and forth on breast pumps. whether to rent or buy. I ended up deciding to rent the hospital grade pump and it is amazing. I love it. I was able to build a huge freezer stash in no time. I can pump in about ten minutes! My LC did recommend the Ameda purely yours pump if I decided not to rent. HTH
I have a Madela PISA (pump in style advance). It's def on the higher end of the price range, but I pump and bottle feed, so it was totally worth it for me. I was EBFing for the first 4 weeks, but I really didn't like it, so after 4 days of pumping with a single manual pump, I broke down and got it. Wish I would have just registered for it to begin with.
I have the Madela PISA and love it! I found a brand new one on Ebay for $200 which saved a bit. If you're going back to work, would definitely recommend a dual electric. It's not fun no matter what, but I couldn't live without mine.
I have the Lansinoh Double Electric (not the Affinity-it has gotten negative reviews) which is the same as the Ameda Purely Yours and it works great for me. I got it for less than $100 on drugstore.com, so it was a lot cheaper than many other double electrics. I pump 2x a day and usually get 4-6 oz in about 15 min.
Medela Pump In Style Advanced (PISA) - I used it multiple times daily from 3 months - 12 months with DS1 and now I've started using it daily with DS2 - it's fast, works really well for me, no problems with it, ever. Highly recommend.
The Lansinoh Affinity is HORRIBLE!!!!! I only pump once a week, and even that being the case, I still hate it. Ugh. Like PP said, the regular double electric is supposed to be great...I think they discontinued it, but some places might still carry it.
