Re: How do you clean your hardwood floors?

  • I use my Shark steamer.

  • I'd love to get a steamer!

Right now, I use the Swiffer and if it really needs a good cleaning, some Murphy's Oil Soap.. either mop or spot clean and rinse really well!

  • Hard wood floor cleaner from Home depot or lowes and a terry cloth mop that you can wash in the wash machine.  Makes them shine!  Thanks, you just reminded me that I need to do this!
  • We have engineered hardwood floors (don't know if this makes a difference).  Anyway, I use Bona cleaner.  It works great and I don't know if I can use a steamer on them.  You can get it at Lowe's, Bed, Bath & Beyond, etc.

  • When we had our hardwood floors refinished last year, we were told to absolutely not use a steam mop on them.  The owner of the company said it's the worst thing you can do, and eventually they will become warped and the finish will crack/peel.  We use a washable microfiber mop with Method wood cleaner.  It it non-toxic, cleans well, and smells great!

  • This was asked not too long ago on here, and a ton of people swore by vinegar (1 cup with a gallon of water).  I tried it and loved it, so now that is all I use

I do add a splash of Mrs. Myers just for the scent

    I use my Shark steamer.

Us too. I use the Swiffer Sweeper Vac a few times a week to cleap up the dust and crumbs and then steam it once a week.

  • I need to do this too!

For quick clean I just use my swifter (Hint: my Shark quit working but the pads fit the wet jet swifter and are washable so I haven't had to buy pads in ages!) but for deeper clean I go with Murphy's.

  • Glass Plus with no ammonia. Been doing it for years and years.
  • My get cleaned by a Shark
  • Vinegar and water.  Shark cleaner is a NO specifically from the manufacturer.  We kept the instructions from the packaging of the wood.  We have a floating bamboo tongue and groove floor, the pieces are glued together so no heat, and no steam.

  •  5 times a day I use plain water (just enough to be damp, not wet) on an old cloth diaper wrapped around my microfiber mop. One side washes and the other dries. Then once per week I steam mop for the mega shine.  :)

Us, too!  Our 100+ year old matchstick oak hardwood floors were refinished 3 years ago and we were told to use Bona (Bed Bath & Beyond) and have really loved it.  :)
