Recommend your makeup (NTTCALR)

I have tried so many different powders and foundation for my face and nothing is working the way I want it to so I thought who better to ask than you lovely ladies. I am currently using bare minerals and I don't like it. It makes my face super pink and doesn't really cover that well. I would really like good coverage as my skin is splotchy in places from a horrible sun burn a few years ago. Any help would be wonderful. Thanks ladies!

Re: Recommend your makeup (NTTCALR)

  • What bare minerals are you using? The mineral veil works for me. Are you using fair or the fairly light? If you mix the two you might get a better result.

  • What!??  From the first time I ever saw your siggy, I thought to myself "This woman has one of the prettiest complexions that I have ever seen...and she's so gorgeous!"

I have used Almay in the past and liked it.  Back in high school when I could blow my paychecks on whatever I wanted I would get Clinique everything.  Now that I am in the real world, I look for deals at Walgreens!  I hope that the other ladies on TTCAL can help you out though.

  • I like the Sephora brand mineral foundation.  It's like a pressed powder.  It covers well and they have way more shades than what Bare Minerals used to have.  I wasn't happy with Bare Minerals at all.  I have yellowish undertones so makeup tends to look too pink on me too.

  • I have hated all makeup until I started used bare minerals, so I don't think I'm much help.  It kind of sounds like you might need to either switch colors, or mix them, like PP said.  I have pretty spotchy skin, but the bare minerals really evens it out for me.

I went to sephora to purchase it and they had way more options than the tv did. I use Medium. I had to go look at it just now and that surprised me as I am very fair skined. Maybe that is why it looks so pink! hmmmm

Awww you are way too sweet. I am blushing. Such a nice thing to say. That picture was taken at a photo shoot I did to help a friend. She did my make-up and god only knows what expensive stuff she put on my face. It's one of the only recent pictures I have taken because of my splotchy skin. Stupid sun burn. HAHA on the clinique. I don't spend that kind of money on makeup anymore now that I too live in the real world. So do you change your makeup depending on the deal? Have you found anything lately that you like? I like ulta if you have one near you. They do a ton of buy 2 get 1 free deals! LOVE IT!

  • I use MAC, they have a powder that is pretty good coverage. I bought it for my wedding b/c I decided to do my own makeup and I wanted something that would even out my complexion and it works fantastic with almost no effort. Plus you can have their people pick it out for you, they tried 2 different ones on me, one with a pink hue and one with the yellow... I've got reddish skin so the yellow helps tone it down. Unless I have a really bad breakout, it covers well enough i don't need anything else and people at the wedding thought for sure I had my makeup professionally done so I've stuck with it. If you go for it make sure you ask for the fullest coverage powder they have.

Does the powder alone cover well or do you have to use a foundation also? I would love to find a powder that would cover well so I don't have to bother with foundation! I am going to see if Sephora has a website! I don't know what is wrong with my skin but either the makeup makes it yellow or pink.

  • If your complexion is as light as it looks, medium is too dark

Yeah, the mineral powder alone works well for me and it lasts all day as long as I dab away the oil.  This is the stuff I use:

  • Okay first off, your skin looks AMAZING in your siggy pic so whatever you're using there, keep on using that!

I too tried bare minerals and I agree it's too dark/orange/pink for me. I got the fairest one they had at Sephora in a trial pack and it's completely wrong. I wanted to see if the mineral makeup would help my dermatitis but it just looks awful on me.

I always have a hard time getting light enough makeup so I generally just go with concealer and powder. I use Lancome's Effacernes concealer under my eyes and wherever I need concealing and Make Up Forever Microfinish powder, which is pure white.

Well, it's the truth, you are very pretty.  I haven't found good deals.  I will have to tell you what powder I bought this last time so you can avoid it.  It's just terrible.  It's some kind of cover girl but it just rubs right off and then I am left with shiny face syndromeTongue Tied  I did however find a really good mascara...it's sheer cover, but I only have it because my mom gave me hers.  I am not ready to order make up off the internet just yet.  I do have some really old blush left over from my wedding (6 years ago!, yikes!)  I know I should throw it away, but I don't use it all the time.  It's Bobbi Brown and I like it alot.  Yes, it is too expensive, but obviously it lasts forever!  Never tried their foundation and other powders though.

  • You ladies are going to laugh but I use Rimmel London Renew & Lift Foundation. Embarrassed It's inexpensive, but it looks great.  I also use Benefit Cosmetics  (brightening) powder or Rimmel bronzer (depending on the season or if I'm just washed out, ie sick or sad one day).....to give me a nice even skin.  I don't like powder-powder because it often ends up either looking fake or spotty (especially in the summer).

  • I like MAC foundations and powders as well. They feel very light, almost like nothing is on your skin. I also use a foundation primer and it really helps to keep the makeup on all day. I can't remember what the primer is called, but I got it at Sephora and I think the brand starts with an M.

  • Have you tried the original or the matte version of the foundation?  I found the original makes my face really shiny and I'm allergic to whatever ingredient that they use.  I use matte but I go one shade up so I get some coverage.  What type of brush are you using to put it on?  I've seen the kabuki brush give more coverage as well.

Unfortunately, I don't have any other suggestions because I just use BE.  I hope the other ladies give you good suggestionsSmile

Because of the great "Snow"vember of 2015, my medicated cycle was cancelled.  However, we were blessed with our little rainbow baby due on 8/14/15!  Baby J had other plans and decided to make his grand ole entrance on 7/4/2015!

Surprise!  Our little girl entered this world on 12/8/2016 after her eviction notice was long past due.  Our little turkey baby turned into a snow baby!

Whoa! I'm not that pale (IMHO) and I use the fairly light/light set (I got the starter set)..If I'm feeling particularly tan that day, I'll sprinkle in a little Warmth (or you can try Faux Tan)..if I'm feeling a little sickly I'll use the light. I'm never going back to regular makeup..I <3 Bare Minerals. Feels like you're wearing nothing! I would recommend trying another color.. GL! Big Smile

  • I use the L'Oreal Bare Naturale powder foundation.  I'm thinking of switching to something else because it doesn't provide much coverage.

I was in Ulta the other day and the salesperson recommended Stila One Step.  It's $44, but she said a bottle lasts 8 months to a year if you wear it everyday.  It goes on like foundation and dries like a powder, and it has good coverage.  She gave my friend a makeover with this stuff and it looked really good!  I might buy it.
