Cloth Diapering

DS is the only CD baby at the pedi office

My DS had his 4 month checkup on Monday. I was curious and asked my pedi if any of his other patients were in CD's. He said that my DS was the only cloth diaper baby in the whole office (2 docs and a NP). I was really suprised that he was the ONLY one! I feel like I need to advocate for the other babies in sposies! How many people do you know of that are CD'ed?

She said she was sold afer the first time she snapped one on our son when she was watching him! I'm so excited to know someone and now I get to buy fun cd for her.

  • Before DD I didn't know anyone who CD'd.  Now, every single one of my friends except one either does or plans to after seeing how easy it is and how much nicer CDs are than disposables.

I've never asked at the pedi though.

  • We're the only ones out of our friends with kids who cd.  The only other people I've met who do, I met through selling diapers on Craigslist.  I know there's more out there who do, just haven't found them yet!

  • I know a bunch of ladies that CD, but that is because I belong to a local CDing mom's group.

Everytime I go to the pediatrician they act like my diapers are so weird! Last time I finally remembered to put him in one with aplix instead of snaps and I still got a look and "what is this contraption?".

  • I must be the only one at the doctor's office as well, because every nurse asks about them and even our pedi asked about cloth diapers. Of course it could be that we were using BestBottom and they haven't seen those particular type before.

Besides myself, my coworker is the only other person I know. She is the one who talked me into it.

  • I have 1 friend who just started CDing her 1 year old, and another friend who CDs part-time.  At our current pedi office I think DS is the only one, we are switching pedis so it may be different at the new office.  He is also the only baby at his allergist or his dermatologist who is CDed.

  • I only know 1 other mom, (due next week) who I go to church with, that is going to CD. No one else that I know has or will, and they all think I'm insane for doing it. I'm starting to think, why is this insane for me to save money??? It's not hard to CD, just a little bit more laundry people!!

  • I didn't ask, but from their reaction, you can tell we are.  We go to a small clinic, though, that just has 1 pedi & 1 GP.  We <3 all going to the same place, and it is really easy to get in for appointments.  I'm surprised they aren't busier, though, as I think it's the best office I've ever been to in my life.

I have some "friends" that CD in other cities but no close friends.  I am meeting up for a "play date" with another local CD'ing mama this weekend.  I am really looking forward to it, and I hope we become friends.  Our kiddos are a month apart, and we live fairly close to each other.

We started out using pre-folds w/ Snappis and the pedis were sooooooo confused!!  I'm ashamed to admit that we finally just started taking a disposable with us and putting DD in that after they get her weight instead of a clean cloth one.  Huh?

  • I know a bunch of other people who see my pedi that also cd.
  • I know a bunch of people in real life that cloth diaper. At the pediatrician's, they didn't act surprised to see her diaper, though, they had me snap her back up. I go to a fairly large practice though.

My favorite conversions are my 18 and 21 year old cousins. They LOVE my diapers and make me post pics on my facebook to see them! The 18 year old said she is "definitely" doing cloth when she has kids. I can't wait to see what the diapers will be like then.

  • I know one person irl who uses gerer prefolds and plastic pants and complains constantly.

No one at her pedi or NICU clinic have acted like they are weird, so I assume we are not the only ones.

  • I don't know anyone IRL, and I haven't asked at the doctors, but judging by how curious they were about them today at his 1 month appt we're definitely the only ones. But the nurse that took DS' vitals has been totally converted :) wooohoo oh yeah an the doctor too
