The house we liked (and that had multiple offers) was sent to auction. Bummer. Apparently, the bank never even responded to the offers. But sure enough, it's listed in the February 13th auction. We're not going to go after it. If it comes back to the market before we find something else, great, but we're going to start looking for something else on Friday.

FWIW, my grandparents went through this over a decade ago. The house they were trying to purchase was bank-owned and ended up going to auction. It never sold through auction, so they were able to negotiate afterward for an even better price than their original offer.
That being said, it was hugely stressful for them. The good news is that as a buyer, you are in a great position in today's real estate market. I hope you are able to find another great home that you will like even more!
Oh poo. That's annoying. I'm sorry you didn't get it this time around.
Before DH and I got our current house (the one with multiple offers I mentioned the other day), we had our hearts set on a different one for MONTHS. Like 9 months. We wen'te quite ready to buy and the market was so crap that no one else was buying either so we waited and daydreamed about how we were going to fix it up. When all of our ducks were finally in a row, we called the agent and found out that an offer had just been accepted on it the week before. I was so bummed out. But, now I'm glad we had the opportunity to keep looking since I love the house we ended up buying to pieces
Good luck!

Much love to all of my magical ladies.
Sorry! I can commiserate plenty with this. Won't go into details though.
We went to an auction on the courthouse steps once. It was pretty interesting. If you can get a personal loan for the max you are willing to spend, you might be able to get it for even less than you think, now that it is being auctioned. Although, you said that there were multiple offers, so "they" might be thinking the same thing.
