Can't pronounce "yes"

I'm hardly ever on here, so I apologize if this is a common question.  DS doesn't seem to have any issues saying plenty of words (mama, daddy, baby, so on and so on) but every time we try to get him to say "yes" he says "set".  Has anyone else experienced something similar?  I'm not really concerned, but it just seems odd that what I would consider to be an easy word comes out in reverse...

Re: Can't pronounce "yes"

  • DS reverses a few words too... shoes is pronounced "oosh", mommy is "mee-maw", and daddy is "dee-dah".  I'm not too concerned because he has lots of words that come out normally.

  • Perfectly normal.  Just keep providing lots of models for him of the correct way to say it.  He'll probably pick up on it very quickly.

  • DD does this for some words too, ones that you'd think would be super easy. Like, for "Up" she says "Pa," and for "Boobie" she says "Ba-boo." Yet the other day DH was watching hockey and her taught her to say "Slapshot," and of course she can say that clear as a bell!

    I'm pretty sure it's normal!

  • She's just hearing the ending sound of /s/.  The initial /y/ sound is difficult to get out.  Totally normal.

  • DS was a VERY early talker and had a HUGE HUGE vocabulary (hundreds of words) before he even said yes. He would just repeat what he wanted rather than saying yes. (As in.. "do you want a cracker?" "Cracker, please." He could speak in sentences and pronounce long words like "Suburban" but would NOT say yes. Of course, he said NO constantly!

Once he did start saying yes, it was more like "Ne-yah." Now he says it just fine (although he mostly says - yeah).

Mine sounds like yours but hasn't gotten the "yes" yet. He has a HUGE vocabulary (he was looking at a book and said "hippopatomaus" last night!) but he NEVER says the word "yes"...Ever! He just repeats the word like yours did.
