Crib questions

I will try to make this as not rambling as possible:

I did a ton of research for evan's crib, it is a Munire and we bought it from Simon's.  We were really happy with the quality at first, and really wanted this to be his until college bed.  Well, the wood scratches SO easily.  There are several marks on it already.  So, I am debating on what to do with this next LO.  I wanted to get them matching color from the same manufacturer (as they will share a room for some time), but I am really reluctant to, seeing how un-durable the finish is.  Thoughts?  Is this typicaly of all crib finishes?

Re: Crib questions

  • Our crib is soft wood too...while we were moving them I told DH and FIL 100 times to be careful with it. But we don't plan on using it for big-kid furniture. I'd probably get a cheaper crib and then buy real furniture instead of converting it...or something harder. If you get white or black you can touch up any dings/scratches once they are older. And you can paint the one you already have too.

I wouldn't worry about matching cribs at all.

  • Hmm.. Eve has a Stanley Young America crib (that will be given to baby #2 we did not get the convertible) and will be getting a stanley young america big girl bed. Her crib has a couple of scratches.. but overall it has held up really well..And its the sturdiest crib I've ever seen/felt.

My only complaint with it is for some reason when I lower the dropside (I only do this when I change the sheets, not to put Eve in it), it gets stuck sometimes.. the one side of it gets jammed..This has happened twice and DH has had force it back up.. but if you're buying a new crib, you probably won't be buying a dropside. We are gonna get the fix kit for this crib so you can't lower the dropside anymore.

  • I can only speak of our experience, but Gavin has a white crib and it's not scratched at all.  Good luck deciding what to do!
  • I'm surprised, G has a Munire crib in espresso and it hasn't scratched.  The end that would be the foot board has a couple gnaw marks from before I realized she was doing it but those could be concealed with the would touch up pen if I needed it to.
  • We were gifted a really nice convertable crib from my parents (with matching furniture from my aunts) for Claire.  Loved it but it is completely scratched up now...my ring apparently catches the drawers and she has scratched up the one rail, with I imagine, her teeth.  For that reason, among others, it won't be her lifetime furniture.

Last weekend I went to Target and they had a crib for 90. (down from 179.) so I bought that for the baby.  No way I'm getting a pricey crib again.
