So we tentatively started with BLW once you ladies assured me even junk food addict parents could do it. We're still offering oatmeal twice a day so I can get his probiotics in him (and for AR). Well every day he is less and less interested in me feeding him. He doesn't really "eat" a whole lot of what he feeds himself, he gums everything we put on his tray and loves meal time, he'll much on it for 20+ minutes, but there is still plenty food left when he's done. He did do a 2 day tiny nursing strike, but he's back to nursing every 3 hours.
Anyways.... now have two small issues ...
1. He now wants to eat EVERYTIME we eat anything. Since he really doesn't "eat" anything, I just keep something in the fridge for him at all times that he can gum on while we eat...is this OK? (I've tried just putting toys on his tray, but he knows the difference and throws the toy on the floor and reaches for my plate). This puts him in his highchari 3 to 4 times a day "eating", he's only 5 months!
2. I've kind of been winging it in the meal department. I've given him zuchinni, squash, sweet potaetos, apple (wasn't sure if it should have been cooked or not), and whole wheat waffles (oh and hubby gave him cooked cabbage...definetly not sure about that one, but he loved it!) .... I'm just not sure what else to offer him .... any books or websites you would suggest for BLW ... I've looked at wholesome baby and becoming mama's websites.
Re: BLW sites and books suggestions - Please!
We only do BLW part time but I've mostly just been going with recipes on wholesomebabyfood and common sense. I researched the foods that we really shouldn't give her and basically feed her everything else. I did just see this book at Half Price the other day and it looked pretty good.
If the hubby and I are eating junk for a meal then I'll put something like sweet potato fries or baked bananas w/ grahams on my plate to feed her. As long as it comes from my plate she doesn't seem to notice (yet) that she's being fed something different.
As for putting him in his high chair 3 or 4 times per day, I don't see that as a problem at all. As long as he's still nursing frequently and you're feeding him nutritious food I don't think you can really overdo it.
I don't really frequent this board, so I'm sorry if I'm jumping into something. But, we BLW so this post caught my eye.
First, BLW is recommended for babies 6 months and older only. That's probably part of your frustration. At 5 months old, LO doesn't really have the means to manage food effectively. One of the principles behind BLW is that babies will manage food safely when they have the means to do so. Any experience with food up to 1 year old is basically just for practice eating, so I wouldn't worry about how much LO is actually ingesting, but again, you'll see much more real eating well past the 6 month mark. He should be eating whenever you're eating and not at separate times. Part of BLW is sharing mealtime with LO.
Gill Rapely's book is the best resource. I bought it on Amazon. Also check out:

and I have a blog - link is in my siggy. Sorry it's not clicky. If you have other questions, I'm usually on the 9-12 board.
