  Depending on how dressed up your congregation gets you could definitely find a pretty white dress. I'd do something sweet and lacy.

  DD was baptized at 3 (almost 4).   She wore a white dress from PBK.   (I had actually ordered two dresses, the other was a pillow case dress with white monogramming--it matched DS1's).  ETA:  the pillow case dress was bough on etsy

  I would do something white from Strasburg Children (or a store like that), because I am old school and Southern like that.

  Definitely check out Strasburg then!  It can get pricey, but OMG, it is beautiful.

  Scarlett was baptized a week ago, and I used the baptismal gown I had for Jackson (which included a long jacket they make that matches).  The quality is unbelievable and gorgeous.

  Their dresses for little girls are equally gorgeous - when Scarlett makes her First Communion, it will be the first place I check!

  Gracie was just baptized (4 y/o) and we found a cute white dress at JC Penny of all places!  Definitely go with white.

  Congregational. When we baptized our just-adopted 10 year old last year he wore khaki pants and a nice red button down shirt.

  My daughter wore the second dress Lari posted for her baptism. She was 8 months, but already cruising, so I didn't want a long gown. The dress is really cute in person, and in my opinion, amazing for the price.
