Re: Baby names

  • My dd's name is Abigail Jodean.

Yes, people look at us like we're crazy. Jodean was dh's grandmother's name and while I know it's unusual, it was my idea. I love being able to call dd "Abbey Jo". :D

  • I thought we'd get to hear yours first! LOL

Mine is Molly. I decided on it from a story I teach. Everyone seems to love it and a lot of people comment on the fact that it's simple and old fashion. Also, a few have mentioned that they never meet a Molly they didn't like. Big Smile

  • Kendall Lee and Sydney Rose. The first names were some of the only ones DH and I could agree on. Lee is my MN and Rose is my mom's MN.
  • Landyn

Yup boys name and wrong spelling. We got her name and spelling from a family friend who is in her mid 30's, and H and I have loved it for years. The only bad reactions I've heard are from here of course. My name is Keegan and think boys names are cute for little girls. Kill me.

ETA: Her mn is Michele, my MIL's middle name

  • ?S's name is Evander Eugene. My husband has been obsessed with this name since before we even started TTC, it is from a hockey player, Evander Kane. He just thought it was a cool name, I hated it and fought him for it for months! We finally agreed on another name and a couple weeks before he was born, I just decided Evander was perfect (I usually call him Van though). His middle name is from my Grandpa who passed away, I was very close to him and it was important that my son have that name. I'm not really sure how people react to the name, I generally assume they find it odd since I always did at first but a lot of people say they love it too! I have gotten the "oh! Well that's a ....unique name," so they obviously aren't a fan but I don't care.

  • DD's name is Hannah Grace. It didn't really come from anywhere, DH and I just both loved it and it was the only name we found that we both liked! After the name was chosen, I learned that my Great (times like 10 or something, lol) Grandfather's name was Johanna (on my Dad's side) and my Great Grandmother's name was Grace on my Mother's side. We thought this was really neat = )

The only bad reaction we had to it was my uncle's girlfriend telling me it was too much of a popular name but that was it. Everyone else likes it

I also like the fact that Hannah is a name mentioned in the Bible = )

  • DS is Kylan, sometimes we call him Kai, but usually his full first name.  It's Gaelic; it literally took us a full 9mos to find a name we liked that was uncommon but not too weird. His middle name is my maiden name.

Most people really like it. No one to my face has said otherwise. It does get mispronounced a lot more than I thought it would.

Sorry!  Dh called me in bc it looked like Ds was going to crawl- but alas, he just belly flopped :)

    Ds is Kellen Wyatt

I love his name still and he totally "fits" his name.  I'm a redhead and I totally thought my Ds would be one too, so I wanted something Irish to offset my German last name.  My MIL's reaction was "Oh you named him after ME!" Indifferent Her MN is Ellen.  No, we didn't name him after you MIL! I've also seen it spelled Kellan and I love that spelling too.

Wyatt was kind of an inside joke at first- Dh and I love the movie Tombstone and  called the baby "Doc" before we knew he was a boy.  Kellen means Mighty Warrior and Wyatt means Little Warrior, so when we found that out, it pretty much sealed the deal.

  • His name is Jayden.

I just grabbed it out of the baby names book. I wanted something that started with the letter J and could have the nickname Jay. I didn't realize it was so popular when I picked it (I swear this is true) because I had never met another Jayden. Now everyone I know tells me they know someone named Jayden. My poor kid is going to be in a class full of a bunch of other Jayden's.

Everyone I know likes it but I always get asked if it a combination of mine and DH's name. It isn't but it is funny what people think that.

ETA: Also his MN is Lazaro which is a family name on DH's side. I also edited it so it wasn't one big paragraph lol.

I really like this! I love "jo" as a middle name, it always sounds good when paired IMO.

  • DS is named Eldin Brewer. My DH picked out the name Eldin when he was 12 years old and we later found out it is an old family name on my side. I picked Brewer for the middle name because that was my great grandfathers middle name. People did not like the name befroe he was born but now everyone loves it, even strangers in the store seem to love it.

  • DS name is Levi Cole. Cole is DH middle name. When DH first mentioned the name Levi I didn't like it...but it grew on me and I love it! We've got a lot of great compliments from it. One person said he would either be a football player or a movie star...sounded like such a strong name. Haha I was nervous people would think we got it from Levi Johnston but NOPE!

  • Jackson Thomas

Jackson was literally the only boys name that my husband likes, so we went with i :) We call him Jax a lot. Thomas is my dad's middle name.

A lot of people say they like his name when they hear it. Hopefully they aren't lying ;)

  • My DD's name is Sophia Faith. One of our favorite shows is Gene Simmons Family Jewels and DH always loved the name Sophie from it. I really liked it, too. We are both big on having names that can be turned into nicknames for sports & such, so we named her Sophia so that she can also be called "Sophie."

Her MN was going to be Kate, but I didn't like the sound of Sophie Kate (it sounded too much like suffocate. yes, I know, I'm odd ; ) So, we decided that we liked Faith. It was simple, sweet, and a testament to our fertility struggles.

The only reactions we have are that the name is so "classic." Which, to me, isn't a bad thing at all.

  • Cecilia Ann. We picked Cecilia before we were married even because we thought it would be fun to sing the simon and garfunkel song with a little girl (yes, we know what it's about, I doubt she will pick up on it for a while). When we announced we were going to be using it, we found out it is actually DH's Great, great grandma's name, so it worked out well.

Ann is my mother's name, she has helped us a lot and we wanted her to have a standard name in the middle in case she somehow hates Cecilia. Now my MIL thinks the next girl will have her name as the middle, but  - her name is Rita, so aside from the fact that anything you put it after then sounds like a drink -  she has given us nothing but grief (starting long long before we met, during DH's childhood even) I don't think that will be happening.

We have only gotten positive responses, although some people's faces have said otherwise. I guess those who dislike it have managed to keep their mouth's shut!

  • Emery Ann. We wanted a first name that was not common / popular and Emery was the only one that stayed static on our ever changing list. We had not decided 100% until we saw her and DH chose Emery. Ann is my mom's MN and was non-negotiable.
  • DD's name is Sophia Correa. DH and I came across the name and we both loved it. Correa (pronounced co-ray-uh, it is Spanish) is DH's grandmother's maiden name. We haven't had any bad reactions to it, everyone seems to like it. I was surprised to find out it was the top girl name this year.

  • DD's name is Peyton Eloise.  Peyton we got from watching a movie and just new instantly that was what we wanted.  Eloise came from the books/character.  I have always loved her and felt like I had her spirit.  weird?  We get tons of compliments on her name.  Every once and a while people will this we named her after Peyton Manning(colts) or Walter Peyton(Bears).  We are HUGE Packer fans.  we would never:)
  • Paige Violet--people seem to like it.  My dad seemed to find the name a little odd at first, I'm not sure if he's ever known a Paige before--all he said was "like turn the page?"

We chose it because it was one girl name we could agree on.  DH likes very feminine classic names (his top choices were Elizabeth and Nicole).  I lean more toward the boy names for girls or more "modern" sounding names I guess.  Violet was my suggestion because I have always liked it but wasn't sure about it as a first name.  DH gave me an odd look, asked why I suggested it and I said I just liked it and it wasn't the standard Lynn, Ann, etc.  He then said it was his grandma's name (all of our grandparents are deceased).

  • DD's name is Maya Elizabeth. We chose Maya because DH's heritage is Guatemalan and has Mayan Indian ancestor's that he wanted to honor. We also like it because it easily pronounced in both Spanish and English and DD was born in May, which is an origin of the name, as well.

Elizabeth was my great-grandmother's name and we liked that we can call her "Maya Beth" :)

    DD1: Maya 05/10
    DD2: Lucia (Lucy) 07/13
  • Brody Eston-James

Brody was the only thing that DH and I could agree on, plus we didn't know if any other Brody's... Now it seems like there's a Brody everywhere we go! Eston was my grandfathers name, he passed away while I was pregnant and James is DH's grandfathers name.

  • Kaden Timothy.

I got his first name from a book I read a few years ago.  I've liked it ever since, and don't care that it has become popular.  It was one of the names that H and I immediately agreed upon.  We decided to wait till he was born to name him and when I first saw him I said "He looks like a Kaden."  His MN is my H's first name.

There haven't been any negative reactions.  It took my grandma a bit to get the pronunciation right, just because she'd never heard the name.

  • DS is Bennett Michael. We were Team Green so we narrowed our list down to one boy & one girl name just before going in for my induction. We chose Bennett because it is not a common name, not too off the wall, and has the versatility for him to be called Ben when he is older. Michael is my dad's name. The response to his name has all been positive, with most people saying they hadn't heard of it before & that they like it. The only thing that did irk me was when I told MIL she said she was going to call him Benny. I literally told her that if she ever wanted to see her grandson she better get that crazy idea out of her head (gotta love those pregnancy hormones!!)

  • Silas Lou-

Silas means "man of the forest" and to be honest, we are big fans of Weeds where one of the kids names is Silas. Lou is my grandpa...funny thing is Mr Silas popped out with a chin dimple- totally from my grandpa as no one else in the family as it. I love all of the names ladies!

  • Ella Grace

DH always loved the name Autumn Grace, but I couldn't stand the name Autumn because I had already associated the name with someone else. We had narrowed our names down to Rylie or Ella, but finally decided on Ella. I figured we would use the middle name DH liked since it sounded pretty together and nobody in my family has that middle name.

Whenever I tell anyone her name, they say they love it!

DD is an Ella Grace too!

There is no back story to it except that we both really liked the name. Everyone always says how pretty it is.

  • DD's name is Layla Regina. Yes, Layla came from the Eric Clapton song! It was also the first name we thought of and, after twenty other names, came back to it. Regina is DH's grandmother's name.

  • DD is Isabella Grace...  both DH and I had Isabella's in our family.  I wanted grace as a first name but DH didn't like it so I got it as a middle name.
  • DS is Gavin William.

I really liked the name Gavin for a long time, though DH wasn't too keen on it.   He ended up deciding that he liked it, too.  William is a family name on both sides.  I think most people like it, but DS's great grandma kept commenting "I keep on thinking his name is Kevin".

  • Easton James

We just loved the name Easton because it is not very common. James is my dad's name. We almost always get great reactions to the name.

  • Mia Juliette.  We had SUCH a hard time deciding.  I wanted Juliette in the end and he wanted Mia.  I was worried about people calling her JuJu, so I caved.  The names are random.  We were planning to give her the middle name "Nicole" which is a big family name on both sides, but compromised by putting our 2 favs together.  People seem to really like it.  I would love to call her by her full name, but it is a mouthful.

  • Our son is Harper Phoenix.  It fits him perfectly and is unique.

If I would have known Harper would explode as a GIRL's name I would have considered changing it, but I'm kind of glad I didn't because it fits him perfectly.

Annnnd Harper is Paul Simon's son's name.  ;-)  (Didn't know that until AFTER we picked it though, he isn't named after Paul Simon's son...)

  • Girl : Emerson Rose

Searching online for 'different' names .... i like boy names for girls. And this was the only girl name we actually agreed on.

Almost EVERYONE we meet has surprisingly said they love the name/great name/unique and special name.  Only a few people have just not said anything when we introduce her. Whatever, we like it :)

  • Easton Rebel. We love his name and it fits him perfect! I have never actually met an Easton which is something we love about his name. We get a lot of compliments on the name. We call him East or E. We get some side eye from older people...like my grandparents... on the mn Rebel. But it fits ds perfect and we don't regret it. I love that it doesn't fit the Gerber baby mold especially since everyone always tells us he is such a Gerber baby lol.

  • DD is Cara Brianne. We were team green, but I insisted on picking a boy and girl name with the same initials AND I wanted it to be of Celtic/Irish origins to honor DH's roots.  That was fun.  Ha.

I really wanted Ceili (pronounced kay-lee) but it's soooooo popular with all of the various spellings that I didn't want her to become "kay-lee spelled weird" in her classes.  =)  We had already announced the initials CB when I changed my mind, so I had to stick with a C name.  We settled on Cadence until about 2 weeks before she was born and I decided that it just didn't sit right with me.  Finally, I found Cara (from the Celtic word for "friend") and it fits her PERFECTLY!!  And Brianne is an Irish name meaning "strong."

The main reaction that I get is, "With a C or a K?"  Hee hee.  Mostly I get positive comments about it being different but not weird.

  • Elizabeth Everett, and we call her Betsy.

We love the nickname Betsy because it is a fairly uncommon name these days and because it seems to be a fun, pretty name for any age.  We chose Elizabeth because of Betsy rather than vice versa (I don't like nicknames as given names), although Elizabeth is a family name for both of us.  Everett is my MIL's maiden name and my DH's middle name.  I love the combo of a traditional first name paired with a family surname as a middle name, and I love the way her monogram looks with the two E's.

  • My lil' guy's name is Duncan James. My DH's family is scottish and we wanted to keep with that history... Duncan means "dark warrior". It also was a name both of us liked and never told eachother about it until we were looking at names... James is my husbands name. We get a lot of compliments... my high school students were a bit put off ("miss...like Dunkin Donuts?") but now they really are used to it and like it.

  • DD's name is Adina Marie.  She is named after both mine and DH's grandmother's.  Adina was his grandmother, Marie is mine.  We had this name picked out before we were even engaged.  We have a boy name picked out too, originally after both our grandfather's (Joseph Dimytry, Joseph being my Gpa and Dimytry DH's) but when DH's father died, we decided if we have a boy he will be either Joseph Bruce or Joseph Arthur.  DH's father's name was Bruce Arthur.
