Anyone using topical Tea Tree Oil

I'm finding conflicting information about using topical tea tree oil. I will ask the doctor about it, but was wondering if anyone is currently using it or has heard about its' safety.

Re: Anyone using topical Tea Tree Oil

  • Tea tree oil is great for treating lots of "issues" naturally. In the salon I work in, we recommend using it on toe nail fungus, scalp conditions, even putting it in your bath water when you're congested. It can be overwhelming and very strong if you use too much. I would assume it's totally safe for you to use while pregnant, but you're dr might not. While being 100 percent natural, it is powerful.

  • I had gotten some tea tree gel from The Body Shop to put on my chest pimples, but it didn't seem to work too well.  I didn't confirm with the doctor, but it seemed to be safer than salicylic acid or benzyol peroxide.  Wish I could find something to get rid of this chestne!

  • I got the okay for Paul Mitchel tee tree shampoo for my psoriasis on my scalp because I can't use any prescriptions due to the steroids in them.
  • I am personally still using it as needed ,but diluting it with a carrier oil so it is not as strong. I am more sensitive to certain odors, now that I am pregnant.

Here are a list of oils I am avoiding during pregnancy (not that I really use that many.  I mostly stick to lavender, peppermint and tea tree).  Of course, ask your doc and do what you feel comfortable with. GL!

  • P.S. I don't apply the lavender or peppermint to my skin.  I just use it for aromatherapy when I have nausea or need to relax.
