How do you bathe babies (7m+)? (any device to make it easier?)

Currently I do one at a time in the infant tub, but they are outgrowing that.  I've seen bath ring seats and inflatable tubs to fit in the big tub.  Any advice?

  • We use the bath ring seats and bath both at the same time. It works out well. They love to splash each other! It can be done solo, but it's nice if your SO is there to help out after the bath with diapers and PJs. Naked babies crawling in different directions can sometimes lead to trouble!

  • At 6 months I started laying them on their bellies in the tub with just an inch or two of water.  They loved it, it was easy, and I didn't have to buy any other special gear that would only last a few months.

As far as doing it by myself, I would either do one at a time, or I'd wash them both, drain the tub, and get one dressed while sitting right next to the tub with the other one still laying on their belly in the empty tub.

  • i bathe both girls at the same time in the big bathtub.  They are too big for the infant seats...and not strong enough to sit up in a toddler seat.  The bath seats I have recline.  The girls LOVE their baths since they play and splash each other.  They can easily spend 20 min. in there.  I have a big warm blanket on the bathroom floor.  (as a cushion).  I use it for undressing and dressing them.

  • A coworker of mine - who has 4 daughters - said that while her DH was showering, she would hand him a kiddo, suds her up, rinse her off, and wrap her up.  We will certainly be giving this a try (not with newborns, but by 3 months or so I think it should work).
  • right at that age we started doing them together (with big brother) in the big tub - using tub seats. We still use the tub seats- they don't like being in there without them - i think they feel like they will fall or something.

DH bathes them and i take one out at a time to dress, etc.

  • My DH works nights so I have been bathing the babies by myself since the beginning. Once they were able to sit up on their own, I started bathing them together in a huge laundry basket in the bathtub. They're able to move around and play, but are always in arm's reach of me. If they slip and bump anything, they hit plastic instead of the tub. I then used it to store their bath toys. My girls are petite so we were able to use this for a LONG time. Now I just bathe them without anything. I taught them the word "sit" around 10 months so they now know not to stand in the tub.
