Ultrasound results why does this mean?

Hi ladies, I posted this on TTGP yesterday but thought someone here might also be able to offer insight. I had a transvaginal ultrasound on day 14 of my cycle. I normally have 28-30 day cycles and that pretty much my O date. On my left ovary she saw "small cystic follicles with one dominant one" and wants me to go back in 6 weeks for another scan. My question is: do we always get multiple follicles around the time of ovulation, or could this be part of the reason we have not had any luck in 8 months trying with good timing? I am charting and see a shift and am using OPK's as well. I tried to google cystic follicles but the term seems to not give me any good info. I think what's she's referring to are follicular cysts? Thanks for your knowledge

    Okay I am going to warn you ahead of time that I don't know a whole lot about this. I do believe though, that every cycle you have multiple cystic follicles and that the dominant one is the one that leaves the ovary and goes out trying to become a baby. That is not in any way a medical answer but I believe I heard it somewhere. I hope someone has a more helpful answer for you. So, if that is true I think you are in good shape! Congrats!

    I'm sorry, I don't know.  However, I always have a lot of follicles.  The RE said that was one symptom of PCOS and had to check my testosterine levels, even though I do ovulate and get my periods every month. (see chart).  Anyway, my OB had mentioned it, but I never got a straight answer until I went to an RE.  I recommend you do that too!

    Baby N conceived after 1 miscarriage and more than 2 years of TTC. Diagnosis was low sperm count. We found success after 3 months of anastrozole to increase DH's testosterone and one IUI.

    I did have some bloodwork for various levels like FSH and my thyroid checked. I think I will consider asking my doc about that. Im not yet seeing an RE since I'm under the year mark, but notby much, and my periods are regular and I am ovulating.

    Thanks for your reply. This was also my understanding. But again I was not sure. I guess if I go back in 6 weeks a d they are gone we will know for sure. I don't have any other symptoms of pcos but this got me wondering.
