Question for runners

How many miles do you log per week?

I haven't run in a long time and when I did run, I never really kept track of anything on a weekly basis.  I want to challenge myself, but also don't want to be over-zealous in my goals.

I am considering myself a beginner because it has been awhile and wanted some opinions...

TYIA!

Re: Question for runners

  • If I was a beginner I would start with maybe 2 per day, take a rest day, and work my way up, maybe do 2 for a week or two, then do 3 for a week or two.  You are going to have to see how your body reacts and how quickly you get back into it.  I personally log around 35-45 in any given week but I have been running for years and love me some distance!

  • If I'm not training for anything I generally only run between 15-20 a week.  I run 4 times a week anywhere from 4-6 miles.

I agree, start slow.  Maybe start with 2-3 times a week for 2-3 miles.  You could always alternate between running and walking if it's too hard in the beginning.

  • I would start out at 3 days a week, 2-3 miles each time.  GL!
  • listen to your body and don't increase your total weekly mileage more than 10% per week.

coming back is hard. go slowly and don't push yourself too much!

  • I log between 15-25 per week depending on my training.  I'm currently training for half marathons.

  • As a beginner - listen to your body. It will tell you when you're running too much, but I would recommend starting with 2-3 miles each time you run. I have been running for 11 years and run about 30-35 miles a week now.
  • I agree with the PP's, a couple days/ week and start with a couple miles each time. Definitely listen to your body and try not to increase too much too soon, that's when injuries occur. Usually a 10% increase is good.

    I run 40+mi/week, usually 5-6 runs/week.
