How many Newborn sleepers???

I can't tell you how many people told us that we would receive a lot of newborn and 0-3 month clothing at our baby showers BUT right now we only have 7 newborn sleepers and 5  0-3 month sleepers.  Additionally, DH and i purchased about 8 preemie sleepers.  So...i'm guessing we need more clothing but am wondering how many sleepers you woudl recommend.  I'm focusing on sleepers because our little boy and girl will be born in the winter in PA and from what i have read the sleepers will be the easiest way to go.  TIA!

Re: How many Newborn sleepers???

  • you might go through 2 or 3 in a 24 hour period with each baby so it depends on how much you want to do laundry.

  • I can't answer your question but I will say, I was also told I'd get tons of clothing at my showers. I've had the first of two showers and the only clothing I've received so far (other than hand-me-downs my sis sent me) is socks!

  • Assume two outfits a day per baby for the first few months.  We did laundry every three or four days, so tried to always have 16 outfits in each size.

Sleepers were the easiest things for me.

  • We received a ton of clothing at my first shower, however it seems like everything was 6-9 mo. so they will have lots of growing to do before fitting in those. Sorry, I am not much help on this yet, but the 2 per day sounds like a good bet.

  • We had 12 sleepers to start with and we had to do a load of laundry every day.  Not even kidding.  So I would say you need at least 3 more NB sleepers.  And I wish we would have had the zippered ones because they would get so upset about how long it took to snap all the snaps.  It would have been nice to be able to just zip it right back up.
  • My boys lived in zippered sleepers last winter and I'm from PA! :)

If I were you, I wouldn't buy too much preemie clothing.  In fact, we didn't use one piece.  Mine were 5 & 6 lbers and used the newborn size until they grew into 0-3 months.  I think we were in newborns for maybe 2 months tops and I think 10 sleepers in newborns would be fine.Babies grow fast and you'll be surprised how quickly they grow out of clothes.

Oh, and you'll probably get more clothes AFTER the babies are born.

  • How many of everything you "need" is definitely dependent on how often you want to do laundry.  We are using cloth diapers and wipes and we are ending up doing laundry pretty much every day to keep up with that plus all of the spit up and pooped on clothes and burp cloths, changing pads etc....

Since we do laundry every day we almost could get by with only 2-3 outfits per baby total and they could just wear the same things every day. As it is we feel bad that we have so many clothes and we don't use most of them.
