TTC after 35

IVF cancelled.

My IVF was cancelled.  I'm not sure what's going on with me and I'm afraid to face it.  Even my doctor doesn't really know why I didn't respond.  I had 4 follies each IUI I had with just 200 follistim.  She said she expected twice that on the heavy ivf regimen: 450 follistim plus menopure and lupron micro.  Instead, nothing.  A mysterious non estrogen producing cyst on one side and potentially a new endometriosis cyst on the other.  Nothing.  I'm am just terrified that I've seen the last of my eggs.  She didn't argue with that thought. I hope I'm not outta this for good but very scared.  I told her I want to try at least one more time.  We talked about DHEA and CoQ10.  She also may put me on growth hormone.  I just have to wait for AF now.  I might visit the IF board too.

What does this all mean, does anyone have any experience? I wish everyone good luck.  -Pix

Re: IVF cancelled.

  • No, no, no.  I'm so sorry to hear this, Pix.  I'm sure you must be asking "Why?" and it must be terrible to not get a good answer to this ever-frustrating question.  As you know, I don't have any experience with this aspect of the journey, but I just wanted you to know that I'm thinking of you and wishing you nothing but the best.  Please keep us posted if you do wander over to the IF board.

  • Sorry, Pixie. Going to the IF board and the SAIF board is a great idea. Tell them your story and your results and I bet some of them may have some similar situations. The SAIF will give you hope again. There may be someone in the same situation as you. I often times would learn from their story and it would give me great questions to ask at my next Dr appt. Our downfall is our age factors in too. My doctor told me you also just have good cycles and bad cycles and they come and go. Unfortunately, it is so expensive. Take care and keep us posted. Deanne

  • I'm so sorry Pix! It must be extremely disappointing/frustrating etc.  I am afraid this will happen to me as well. I think we need to remember that this is not an exact science and we are essentially guinea pigs for the doctors-- try and see if it works, if not, try something else. It really stinks. I hope the doctor can find a drug cocktail that you respond to and quickly. Hugs to you:-)

  • Oh, Pix.  I saw this this morning, didn't have time to respond, and have been thinking about you all day.  I am so, so sorry.  I am wondering if your doctor did the (horrible) AMH test? I only ask because according to my RE, it is that number that gives her an idea of what protocol to use for me.  Your response will already clearly change your RE's mind about what to do next, so maybe it's not necessary, however (and I certainly feel I could do without knowing my number).  I too don't understand how you can have produced follies on a lower dose of meds but not on a higher one.  I read something about lupron sometimes over-suppressing ovaries for older women...was that part of your regimen?  Anyway, I am sure you will figure this all out.  You are the pioneer in all this on the board at the moment...not a nice place to be when it turns out like this, I know.

I hope you are out having a drink.

  • Duh, I didn't read carefully enough -- I see you were on some Lupron.  Maybe ask about this? According to the protocol information I got at my clinic, they use an antagonist protocol "for women who show a poor response to [agonist suppression or microdose flair]" -- both with lupron.  The Antagonist protocol is no Lupron, just follistim and then Antagon (whatever that is) once the largest follicle reaches 14 mm.

Anyway, maybe this helpful.  If it isn't, just ignore and keep drinking.

  • Oh Pix.  I am sorry to hear all of this.  I do not have any experience, but I am thinking of you and hoping everything works out somehow.  It is extremely frustrating to have to bounce around from one treatment plan to the next, but maybe think of it as being lucky that there are options open to you, and maybe this thought can help you feel more hopeful?  I'm sorry if this sounds idiotic, but please know I am sending good thoughts your way.

  • Oh pixie! Sending you lots of hugs! I'm so sad for you I want to cry. I hope you get some support on IF and SAIF. And some answers from your RE. Thinking of you and will say a prayer for you as well.

  • Sorry to hear!!! I was praying for you.. You have had some good forward progress (in comparison to my progress). Hopefully it was just a bad cycle and the RE will try a different "cocktail" for you next time. Maybe your body has been jump started and you will get a natural BFP next cycle.
