36 lbs at 1 year old?

My MIL insists she was 36 lbs at 1 year old.  I highly doubt it- she has a history of embelishing things.  Where can I find information on 1 year old weights?

Re: 36 lbs at 1 year old?

  • look for a growth chart... at aap, cdc,

    most 12 m/os are between 20 and 25lb.  maybe at 2 or 3. closer to 3 prob.

  • Hmmm. Although I seriously doubt it, my cousin's first child was 27 lbs at 4 months old. He was so fat that he didn't roll over until much later. She had no clue how to take care of a baby, and shoved a bottle in his mouth every time he cried.

Thankfully, he thinned out and is now a 6'3" tall 22 year old who is skinny as a rail.

DS was 21 lb at 1 year, and that was about the 40-45th percentile.

  • My little brother was 33 lbs at a year and his son was 34 lbs at a year. It's possible.

Oddly enough, they are both thin as rails now.

  • DD#1 was around 29 pounds at 1 year, but she was also freakishly tall as well.

  • DS #1 was 30lbs at a year, and he was HUGE.  DS #2 was 27, but 36 sounds like a lot.  Possible I guess, but a lot.
  • She has said they fed her cayro syrup for formula.  so perhaps she was...

  • Yeah, milk and corn syrup would do it.

  • I don't remember what ds was at one year, but he's 36 lbs now and today is his 3rd birthday.

  • Ethan was 33 lbs--it's not a far stretch to say she was 36 lbs.
  • We have the same MIL....

My MIL insists that DH was 35 lbs at a year. There is a picture of him, his one year picture, and he's AWFULLY fat and chunky..so much so that there is this giant roll around his side that it looks like someone put their hand up his shirt to support him, but its his fat.

MIL also fed DH cereal "as soon as we got home from the hospital because he wasn't sleeping that well at night."  Cereal in bottles, cereal with spoons, however she could get him to eat cereal.

I've seen the picture, heard the stories, and still have a hard time believing it was actually 35 lbs....maybe 30.

THEN supposedly he slimmed out and "couldn't keep SUPER slims on."  Apparently back in his day there were REGULAR slims AND SUPER slims.....andthe super slims were too big for him.  This I really doubt because I've NEVER, EVER, EVER seen a picture of my DH skinny....all pictures were of him chunky.

  • so true about adding the cereal and caro....  I remember dd was so tiny.  had issues gaining early on... at one month my mil suggested cereal b/c that's what they were instructed to do... add cereal at 1 month.  then again, she said the nurses put babies on an every 4 hour schedule in the hospital and that's what they did at home too. she never had the every 2 hour feedings. they didn't bf...

guess it's possible.  but my word , that would be one huge 12 m/o.

  • My cousin's son was 33....and this was just in September. He was on Target formula, and took to babyfood well.  He has actually lost a lb since because he's now up and walking.  He's adopted - so they have no clue what to expect.  He is 3 weeks younger than my twins and he is almost 2x G's size. He didn't roll until about 8 mos, and didn't crawl on hands/knees til about 13 mos.  He just started cruising a few weeks ago.
  • DS was around 30 year (which is bigger than DD at three), but he was/is also super-tall.  He was chunky - I can't imagine 6 more lbs (he was 36 lbs at 2, so it took him awhile to gain those 6 lbs).
  • I have a friend who's baby boy is just over a year old and he's 32.  He's always been a big boy though, even at birth he was 10lbs.  So it's possible.

  • Both of my kids were about 28 lbs at 12 months and 30-31 lbs at 15 months... so I guess while not 36lbs, still not entirely impossible.

My almost 6 y.o. was 35 lbs at 3 y.o. and my almost 3 y.o. is 36 lbs now... so they slowed down significantly since being 30lbs+at 15 months.
