Hey ladies! My daughter, Sophee, is 9 days old. When can I start putting diaper cream on her after each diaper change? I want to prevent a diaper rash and not wait until she gets one, is this the right thinking? I have her two week appt. on Monday and I will ask pedi, but I wanted to get your advice as well. TIA

Re: When to use diaper cream/ointment ?
Congrats on your LO!
We only use the cream if we see something coming on, or is she is more red then usual. We havehad no issues with this method.
yes. ditto on this one.
The best way to prevent diaper rash is to let her air out a bit during diaper changes. I only use diaper cream on DS if he's starting to look really red down there. She's pretty little so she is probably not enjoying diaper changes yet, but eventually she won't mind them as much. I let DS air out during most diaper changes (except overnight if there are any), and I think I've only had to use the diaper cream a few times as preventative maintenance. During the day I tend to fan his bottom with the clean diaper to make sure he's dry before I put the fresh diaper on. He loves it.
Edit: Oh yeah, and congrats! She's adorable!
We use diaper cream before a nap and before bedtime (because he'll be in that diaper for a while) and if I start to see him getting red. I probably use it more than I need to.
Also, we use a hair dryer on a low, cool setting on his butt to dry it out if I notice he's red or after a diaper change in which I had to wipe him a lot. I know it sounds weird, but the hair dryer trick is the best thing ever!
The two men in my life. Oh, and I have a husband too...
DS is prone to diaper rash so we use cream before bedtime, long car trips and whenver he is looking a bit red. Boudreauxs has come out with a protective spray that we like. We also have had luck with using talc free baby powder to keep him rash free. We sprinkle a little in his diaper and then put the diaper on.
Air on a bare butt does wonders for a rash if it does pop up.
This is what we do also. DD has a rash now, so we are using cream, but until recently she was rarely red at all. Until this rash, a bit of A&D on slight redness cleared it up within a couple hours. This new rash apparently has yeast with it, which is a whole new issue.
We let our son air out a bit throughout the day ... and he loves it. I think that would help alot. We've been peed on a few times but whatever. ha
We haven't had any problems at all so far. If I notice that he might be getting a little red I will put some cream on him before bed but that is it. So far, so good.
Congratulations on your LO ... adorable!
