Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Can babies have mushrooms?

I don't really consider DD a "baby" anymore, but she hasn't quite reached the magical age of one.

Since the allergy fairy hasn't come yet to sprinkle her with dust to allow her to eat peanut butter  and eggs and drink milk, I was wondering if she can have mushrooms?

I made a veggie dish for dinner that includes saut?ed mushrooms and broccoli. She's strictly on table food now, but I have never given her mushrooms before. I'm pretty sure she's had foods that include mushrooms, but never mushrooms by themselves.

I would say that since she's had them mixed in food she should be fine, but my pedi told me it was OK to give her food with eggs in it (meatloaf, muffins, etc) but not eggs by themselves. So, apparently, it's different.

Can anyone help? Thanks!  Smile

  • I've given DD mushrooms, our pedi didn't say anything against it. The only things he's said no to are peanut butter, honey and shellfish, he's pretty lenient. He ok'd whole eggs at 9 months.

  • My DD has had them and really enjoys them. Granted, our pedi only warned against honey and PB so my DD has had lots of things that maybe others wouldn't offer. I think the issue with eggs is that the amount of egg she'd consume in a meatloaf is minimal - maybe 1/10 of an egg or something? - while she might eat a whole egg on its own?
  • OK, ladies. Thanks!

IDK why it all of a sudden occured to me that she might not be able to eat them... lol

  • According to wholesomebabyfoods site or what ever it's called, mushrooms are okay as long as they are part of something and cooked. :) So I think it's fine what you're doing! Same with onions I think.
