Puffy Stretch marks??

I've had some stretch marks under my belly show up that are puffy and red and VERY itchy. Its bugging the heck out of me. Has anyone else had these? Does scratching it make it worse? Is there anything you have used that makes it stop itching thats safe for pregnancy?

  • Sounds like PUPPPS- head into a dermatologist to have it checked out. There are a few different rashes that you can develop in pregnancy, some of which are more benign then others, but most drs are apt to call any rash PUPPPS. You can take Benadryl to combat the itch until then. Nothing is going to make it go away but delivery (and even then I had to wait 7 weeks after!) but here's some suggestions:

    1. Shower or bathe as cool as you can stand it- warmth is going to irritate them and make the itch worse.

    2. Don't try to combat dryness with lotions and creams because they trap in heat and moisture and actually make the situation worse. Make sure you stay hydrated from the inside out by drink lots of cool water.

    3. Most topical itch relief sucks. There is a numbing spray your dr can prescribe that is safe. Oatmeal baths help temporarily. That pink lotion mostly just flakes off and drys your skin out. Icing the itch parts gives some temporary relief- better than most medical alternatives.

    4. Stay away from perfumes and dyes in all products to keep the number of things irritating your skin down- laundry soaps, hair products, soaps, etc. Also, try to stay away from fabrics that hug the skin and irritate the area more.

    5. I know it's hard, but don't itch. I would wear gloves to keep myself from scratching.

It's absolutely the WORST thing ever and I'm sorry you're going through this. Just know that it can spread (my ankles and fingers were awful) but that your boobs and face should be mercifully spared.

  • I have had these under my belly for a few weeks, the Dr has seen them and hasn't said anything.  They itched for a few days on and off and this stretch mark lotion that has an anti itch ingrediant worked for me.  I forget the name, I got it on amazon and it has a bee on it, it was pretty expensive.

You should check with the Dr just in case but an anti itch stretch cream preventer worked for me.
