do I get another ultrasound??

So-- I'm 39 and as the dr's office puts it....AMA--and at my 20 week ultrasound my Dr not so convincingly said "I'd say it's a girl" then said he was 95% sure..but still wasn't super convincing to me or DH. So now I'm wondering and I forgot to ask the office but since I'm "AMA" will I get the chance for one more ultrasound?? I was AMA with my DD but I cannot remember how late I got ultrasound versus stress test monitoring.

I'm not sure what AMA means, but I would just call your office to ask, because every office is so different.

My doctor isn't planning on giving me another ultrasound until around 36-37 weeks to "size up" the baby.

My doctor told me that if they get all the shots they need (brain, kidney, cord...etc) that they would not redo it just to find out the sex. But I do get one at around 34-36 weeks to check position.

I would call to see what you get another one?

It just depends on your dr. Some drs do a lot of ultrasounds and some opt to not do them unless medically necessary. I don't think AMA would make a difference to how many you get in a pregnancy, unless there's reason to believe that something could be wrong with the baby.

If he said he's 95% sure, I wouldn't be grading him on the emotion he put into the statement. It's a girl. You don't get a do-over unless you want to pay for it.

I doubt doctors realize they have to say these things with feeling or they won't be believed.

My doctor's office said I get no more unless they need to for medical reason! Really hope they got the sex right the first time

Now that you mentioned the one at 34-36 I did get one to measure her and check the amniotic fluid etc...so I should be at least able to confirm again then..that' still time to paint a small room :-)

I had one at 8 weeks, 12 weeks 16 weeks, 20 weeks and will have one at 24 and 28 weeks. beyond that it will only be close to due date to check for position and size. each person and Dr are different, I'd ask your office

My AMA perineonatologist has me scheduled for 2 more "routine" U/S's. One is at 27 wks and the other at 34. He says these are just to make sure all is progessing the way it should and to check her weight and growth.

AMA may make you high risk which could lead to more ultrasounds. I am high risk (my DS had a birth defect, my BP goes up during pregnancy, last time I had PTL) and so I'm getting a growth ultrasound at 26 weeks and then we'll do NSTs twice weekly starting at 32 weeks. Each NST obviously doesn't mean an ultrasound, but in my experience, if the baby doesn't pass the test criteria pretty quickly, they send you for one.
