Toddlers: 24 Months+

Clothes Question?

My DD has grown out of her 18mnth size pants (too short), but the 24mnths seem to be too long!  Does anyone else have this problem?  and is there a brand that anyone would recommend?

Re: Clothes Question?

  • no solutions but i can relate.  ds is in 18 - 24 months stuff.  the 18 month pants are getting a little snug around his buddha belly but the 24 months fit the length but can be too big in the waist. sigh.

  • what brand are you using?  I know Arizona & Co sizes run big (JC Penny).  The 18 month pants were long on my 2 y/o. She's skinny so she cannot wear them at all.  I find ON to be on the smaller side.  Gymboree to run a bit big.  dd was still wearing some 12-18 m dresses from there this summer (she'll be 3 in Jan). I really like the osh kosh jeans at target b/c they do an adjustable waist band starting at 12 m.  They work well for dd.

    good luck.

  • Same problem here.  She's actually wearing capri pants today that fit her like long pants! Big Smile
  • Yeah -- the sizes get more different as your child gets bigger.  So, for instance, the difference in pants leg length between 3m and 6m is 3/4 inch.  The difference for the same pants between 18m and 24m is 2 inches.  It gets increasingly hard to make a smooth transition to the next size as the child gets older.

I have two tall, thin kids, ages 4 and 8.  I have found the best way to cope is to get the right length or slightly longer and ALWAYS get adjustable waist pants.  Roll the bottoms up (who cares what fashion statement it makes -- they're kids!) at first until the child is taller.

  • Children's Place and Gap were the keys for me. DD pretty much skipped straight from 12 to 24 months in most brands and stores. BabyGap I felt really did have a difference in length in a lot of the pants BUT for a while there DD was super skinny so I bought Children's Place jeans in one size up and rolled them up just a little and you can adjust the waist inside so they don't fall down. She's 24 months now and is ready for 3T and I'll be buying Children's Place jeans again.

Oh yeah, I've found OshKosh seemed to run a little bit bigger. But pants that are too short or ride up and expose most of the leg when DD is picked up are a pet peeve of mine. Go with a little bit looser and roll them up so she's got room to actually move around and be comfortable.

  • All the time.  My DD fits into the GAP pants pretty well.  She wears the 12-18  month ones now.  They have an adjustable waist which helps a ton too.
